Gaze not into the abyss, lest you become recognized as an abyss domain expert, and they expect you keep gazing into the damn thing.

This essay is as bad as the headline suggests, and a reminder that a certain type of political journalist enjoyed the chaos because they would never be targets of the administration. Our journalism is worse for it.pic.twitter.com/s827nsqDhM

I love how everyone in tech is picking apart the new http://whitehouse.gov site and literally every comment I’ve seen is positive. I’m feeling x-build-back-better header indeed!

There’s definitely WordPress in government. It’s just not what powers any of the 30 interconnected systems that probably cost $500 million and are decades old and weren’t built with users in mind and make it harder for the government to provide healthcare or economic relief.

I promised I would blog more when I left
@USDS, but the truth is I have just never really been in a position to be allowed to say a lot about my work. I do have a lot of stories to tell, but a fun fact: I never worked on a single WordPress site in my 4+ years in government.Vis denne trådenTakk. I also worked on a process called Agency Review, which meant by law my name and current employer were published on the internet. I was on two teams, reviewing
@USDS and DHS, after having worked on immigration & refugee issues under Obama. [fixing threading, I should have blogged]Vis denne trådenTakk. Twitter bruker denne informasjonen til å forbedre tidslinjen din. AngreAngre -

I don’t know how many questions I’ll be able to answer, but happy to entertain them.

We’ll find more opportunities to talk about some of the technical aspects of http://whitehouse.gov in the months ahead, because even though it’s just another WordPress site, we did our best to ensure the Biden-Harris Administration would be ready to communicate on Day One.

http://whitehouse.gov is powered by WordPress and the Gutenberg editor. The team at
@10up@helenhousandi@jeffpaul@dinhtungdu, with an assist from@aaronjorbin, built a truly innovative editing experience in Gutenberg to drive the site. It’s mind-boggling good.Vis denne trådenTakk. Twitter bruker denne informasjonen til å forbedre tidslinjen din. AngreAngre -

If you want to read more about the http://whitehouse.gov effort,

It turns out it’s actually unprecedented to build a new http://whitehouse.gov from scratch at the beginning of an administration. The Bush team coded up Obama‘s designs. The Trump team changed the name on Obama’s site. We did a six-month design and build in six weeks.

(”Tight deadlines“ is underselling the fact that the deadline is so hard that it is in the Constitution.)

I was privileged to lead the talented teams behind http://whitehouse.gov and http://buildbackbetter.gov . I'm proud what we accomplished up against tight deadlines and a presidential transition unlike any other. The reviews of http://whitehouse.gov have been a joy to read.

Especially with my name listed publicly, it was obvious to a number of you who messaged me that I probably had a hand in http://whitehouse.gov .

The concept and execution of presidential transitions are just wild. You only have a few short months to get ready for “Day One.” Of course, this whirlwind is essential to American democracy and the peaceful transition of power.

Some professional news… I spent the last few months working on the Biden-Harris Transition Team. It was an incredible and humbling experience helping to prepare an administration inheriting many dire crises. A thread.
