International Department for ensuring interaction with CIS countries, international cooperation and protocol events of The Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia carries out international cooperation and supports protocol events with the participation of the Director of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia.

The main goals of the department are:

- establishment and development of partnership relations with penitentiary systems of other countries in order to exchange experience, best practices and up to date information on various aspects of execution of punishments;
- introduction of the standards of the European Prison Rules into the penitentiary service;
- extension of the punishment application practice, not connected with isolation from a society;
- establishment of Russian penitentiary service interaction with foreign non-governmental public organizations and foreign mass media;
- participation of representatives of Penitentiary Service of Russia in work of the delegations representing the Russian Federation at various international forums;
- activity management of the Federal Penitentiary Service bodies concerning international cooperation;
- contribution to positive image of Russian Penal System on the International arena.
