GIMP 2.10.12 Release

June 27, 2019

GIMP 2.10.12 was released recently. Sorry for the delay in releasing my builds. Unfortunately, most of the delay is due to the fact that I've not been able to build an usable Mac app with this version. There has been a dramatic decrease in usability since version 2.10.6. I can't get Python working properly as it takes literally 15 to 20 minutes for the plugins to export a file. Similarly, I cannot get G'MIC to function at all. So, I'm releasing only the Windows version for now. I hope I'll be able get the Mac version up and running. However, I am not promising anything. If you have any suggestions, please let me know.

GIMP 2.10.12

NUFRaw is still the default raw editor. You are free to use any raw editor to edit camera raw images. I've received reports that RawTherapee is now functional if you have installed the latest version.

G'MIC has been updated to the latest git pull.

Nik Collection

Nik collection (the original version) will still work as advertised provide you have installed it in the default location.

GIMP 2.10.12 with Nik Collection HDR

Nik Collection is no longer freeware and no longer supported by Google. However, you can still download that version from various sources, most notably The Internet Archives. The Nik Collection was acquired by DxO. Recently, they have filed for bankruptcy protection but have promised to continue developing it. You can download a trial version from their website. If you can't find the original free version, please let me know.

GIMP/McGimp 2.10 Final Release

April 30, 2018

A couple of days ago, after 6 years of development, the release of GIMP 2.10 was announced.

McGimp 2.10.0 Std

We think it's a great achievement with the limited development resources and the tireless work needed to fix issues as they arose. So, Kudos to the developers on this very important milestone!

Well, our builds are not far behind this time. Introducing GIMP 2.10 with the usual bells and whistles you have come to expect from this build.

The raw image editor Nufraw is included as usual.

See above! Currently one is unable to select RawTherapee as a default raw editor. The issues are technical and the team is working to fix this. A bug report has already been filed and once it is resolved, this build will be updated with the fix.

With this build as before, you can use all the brushes you'll ever need.

G'MIC has been updated to latest pull as well. For the Mac OSX build, G'MIC requires an additional X11 interface which has been provided in this version. Please let me know if you face any issues.

If you have been using Photoshop, then you must be familiar with using the camera-raw plugin on any current image/layer you wish to. Well, with this build, you can consider doing the same by using LightZone as the "camera-raw" plugin. Of course, you have to make sure that you have installed it in its default location. Special thanks to Stefano Azzi for providing this plugin.

One needs to be a little vigilant while using LightZone. Please be sure to save and close the application or your edits will not be transferred back to GIMP.

Finally if you want to provide just a hint of HDR to your image or go all grunge, you can always open the Nik Collections HDR Pro to get the job done.

Needless to say, you have to have the Nik Collection installed in its default location.

PANORAMA STITCHER

How to stitch panoramic images

I have added another plugin that allows you to stich large panoramas from within GIMP. To do this you will need to get the free Panorama Stitcher from the App Store on your Mac and install it in your Applications folder.

It is important to remember that the images need to be loaded as layers. Once done, start the panorama stitcher from the filters menu, and you are good to go. Once the panorama is created, you must save the file in the default location (your Documents folder) and close the stitcher. The panorama will now open in a separate window for further editing.

Please watch the video.

On Windows, please download and install the capable panorama stitcher available free of charge from Microsoft. Install it in its default location C:\Program Files\Microsoft Research\Image Composite Editor. Once installed, you'll be able to use the panorama stitcher on Windows.

Helpful Hints

  • General Installation Instructions
    Windows

Important: Uninstall previous builds from the target installation location. Installation has been streamlined as much as possible.

Download and double-click on the installer and follow the instructions on your screen. Your computer may ask you to provide your administrative password. This is normal while installing software on the target computer. The software will be installed in the Program Files folder if you select the default settings. Also, it will create necessary files and folders.

The portable versions do not require any particular installation instructions. Simply double-click on the executable and unzip it to your desired location. The portable versions are self-contained and do not interact with your system or any existing GIMP installations.

    File Association

Remove all references to the software you are installing from the registry and then use Windows to associate this version with your desired image formats.

    Mac OS

These versions are compatible with Mavericks (10.9) and above. Simply unzip the version you prefer and drag it to your Applications folder.

  • About Virus Alerts

My builds are based on source code from the respective developers. Some modifications have been made to make the code compatible with Windows. These builds are compiled using GCC 7.1.0 available from the great folks at MinGW. I have received reports that some virus checkers are triggered by my builds. There is not much that can be done with these reports. They are false positives that you will have to take up with your virus checker software company. Please read this interesting article on how frustrating these reports can be.
