Frequently Asked Questions

• What kind of printers do you use?

  Depending on your print size, your order could be printed on several different pieces of equipment. All prints 20x30" and smaller are printed on one of our Noritsu small and medium format photo printers. Prints larger than 20x30" will be printed one of our Durst Theta 76 printers. These printers expose light sensitive paper that is then run through a chemical process. These are real photographs, not inkjet prints.

• What kind of paper do you use?

  Kodak Professional Supra Endura VC Digital Paper is used for Lustre, Glossy and Metallic paper. It has an increased color gamut, excellent flesh reproduction, sharpness, and brilliant image quality.

• Do you sharpen my files?

  No, we do not sharpen any files. You be the judge of when to sharpen files and are welcome to sharpen them yourself at anytime.

• Do you put borders on prints?

  No, all of our prints are borderless, except proofing where borders are optional. If you would like a border, please put the border on yourself. Borders are available for proofs when ordered through ROES.

• What is the largest size you can print and mount?

  We can print 30" wide by 12’ long. We commonly make prints to 96" and longer. We do not mount prints larger than 30x40". We only texture prints up to 24x30" and lustre coating no longer than 60".

• Can you mix and match the photo paper types?

  Yes, you can mix and match all three paper types, Lustre, Glossy, and Metallic, all in one order. There are tabs at the top of ROES, in the Photo Prints catalog, to choose between the different paper types.

• If I have an odd sized print do I need to put it onto a standard size canvas?

  Yes, we have standard sizes setup in our printers which are limited by the equipment and the available sized paper rolls. We offer many sizes beyond the standard portrait sizes so you can find a size very close to what you need. To put an odd size print on a standard size canvas, go to “Canvas Size” in Photoshop. Type in the standard print size dimensions and anchor your odd size image to one corner. Set the color of the excess space to something that contrasts with the image such as neon green.

• Will part of my image be lost in the printing process?

  We do enlarge your image by about 2% which is approximately 1/16" to 1/8" of your image. We do this to account for paper tolerances so that you do not receive a print with a white edge. Because of this, we do ask that anything important in the image including borders, text, etc. are moved in about a ¼" from the edge.

• What is the archival life of a photo print?

  Over 100 years in typical home display. Over 200 years in dark storage. And 1-5 years for commercial display.

• Can you emboss or foil stamp my studio logo or client name on wallets and prints?

  No. We suggest you place your logo or client's name on your file in Photoshop.

• How do I order buttons or magnets?

  Buttons or Magnets can only be ordered through FTP. The files must be uploaded and an order form filled out online. Type the word "buttons" or "magnets" in the "other" box of a “Thrifty” order form. Also type in the number of files you'd like as a button or magnet. Buttons are 3" and magnets are 3.5x5".

• What is included with color correction?

  We correct the entire file and balance for skin tones. We will stop if highlights begin to have a color cast or are blown out.

• What size are wallets?

  Wallets are 2.5x3.5" and are printed 8-up on a sheet.

• What size are Mini Snapshots?

  Mini Snapshots are a 3.3x4" Print with a 2.85x2.85" image.

• What mounting substrate is recommended If I'm framing my print?

  Any of our substrates work great for framing your print, except Standout. Standout comes ready to hang without a frame needed.

• What is the purpose of lustre coating?

  Lustre coating provides protection from fingerprints and slight scratches as well as provides a slightly matte appearance to lustre prints. This coating does not provide UV protection.
