What a thrill after 16 months of thinking about COVID-19 vaccines to finally be vaccinated! 🙌🏽 to all the scientists that made this possible but especially to Prof Karikó - her work and her tenacity to see the work through is inspiring.

This is why we should be talking about automated decision making, not about AI tech.

I wrote some thoughts on what Google’s LaMDA announcement means for conversational application creators tl;dr: exciting stuff, can’t wait to access an API and integrate with , unlikely to happen soon. significant challenges remain.

Off the bat I’ll give them points for talking about “automated decision- making” and not just AI. A much more useful framing.

Opportunity: Define a model of the domain (in our case conversations) that empowers the expert to do more faster. A good model makes communication with other experts easier and supports best practices and reusability for the long term. What does no-code mean to you?

Pitfall: resist simply putting a UI over programming concepts. The domain expert shouldn't be forced to think in programming terms. Tools that look like Blockly are great to learn how to program. They are not no-code tools though. They are UI-based coding tools.

Objective: Take a non-trivial problem, one that would require a team combining programming and domain knowledge, and make it possible for the domain expert, on their own, to create a fully functioning solution. In our case, the domain expert is the conversation designer.

At we are building a no-code tool for conversational applications. I've been trying to define in clear terms what that means to shape our approach. Here are some thoughts on no-code tools in general: core objective, biggest pitfall and the biggest opportunity

Google just announced a seemingly innocuous technical change to how they render content in Docs, but in reality this is a watershed moment where democratic control over one of the most used applications is replaced with a centralised & obfuscated model 1/7

What describes that condition where as soon as you hit what you consider a major and impossible milestone you immediately categorise it as actually not that significant, turn your focus on the "next major thing" and not give yourself any time to just enjoy it. Is there a cure?

Not sure how Facebook decided that the problem with the racism on their platform is that it wasn’t sufficiently localized, but they did.

Wrapping up a day of talking to people about and demoing the tool. So great to see all the positive reactions 🥳 but hate how my mind relentlessly just keeps questioning “what are you missing?” , “what are you not seeing?” 😩
