Dallas Flooring Tile

One sure-fire way to increase the value of your Dallas home is a bathroom remodel. Often, the most important part of this remodel is a new flooring installation. Many homeowners spend countless years resenting their ugly linoleum floors. The answer to this problem with bathroom flooring is usually bathroom tile. By knowing what's available and how to go about choosing and installing new Dallas flooring tile, you'll be well on your way to a great bathroom remodel.

Flooring Tile Options
There's no one type of tile that's best, and by the time you consider material, size, grade, shape, and color, the options are nearly endless. Ceramic and porcelain tile tend to be the easiest to maintain and offer unique options for bright colors and bold bathroom design, but these tiles are also more susceptible to chipping. Though they require periodic sealing to resist the potential for stains, stone tile should last for the lifetime of your bathroom. Granite, marble, travertine, and other stones also offer a timeless, elegant look. Whatever tile you choose, it's also a good idea to purchase a few extra tiles in case something happens to one of your tiles down the road.

Bathroom Tile Ideas
A little preplanning goes a long way, and knowing what tile can do for your floors from a design standpoint is critical to getting the best flooring installation. Different colors, shapes, or sizes of tiles can create interesting visual effects and textures or a stunning border around your floor tile. Similar to light colored walls, larger tiles can create the illusion of more space in smaller bathrooms. Round molding around the baseboards can also give your tile installation sharp definition and emphasis. Another great idea is to use a contrasting grout color to highlight the look of your kitchen or bathroom tile.

If you're having trouble deciding, your Dallas flooring tile contractor can be a great source of unbiased advice. For an even keener eye, you might also think about consulting with a Dallas interior designer. Dallas, as you may already know, is the third ranked city in the country in the fashion industry, and this culture extends into the home decorating business. If your Dallas bathroom tile is part of a bathroom remodel or you have questions about other areas in your home, a quick consultation with one of these professionals can do wonders for your home.

Cost of Tile
HomeAdvisor tracks all the home improvement projects we process to gather information so you'll know what to expect from your Dallas bathroom tile installation, and all your home improvement projects, too. Stone tile tends to cost more than ceramic tile, but this difference is insignificant compared to the total size of your floor and the quality of the tile you select. A high-end ceramic tile is going to cost more than an economical stone tile option. We've seen small bathroom projects for as little as $800-$900 and larger kitchen projects that cost several grand, regardless of the tile choice. We even had one Dallas ceramic tile project come in at $11,000. Overall, the national average for a ceramic or porcelain tile project averages $1,800, whereas stone tile projects average $1,900.

Project Length
Another reason stone tile tends to be just a smidge more expensive is that the extra weight of stone tends to be a little more difficult to work with. Total project lengths for tile installation tend to be right around a week, although ceramic or porcelain tile installations tend to shave a day off this time. If you need your tile installed right now, you may be able to fast track your project, but otherwise it's best to take the time to talk to multiple contractors and ask for recent client referrals to ensure you get the best quality installation for the best price.

Comment: My bathroom is only 7 months old since the last renovation. I bought the house after it was renovated and the master bathroom grout on the floor is now crumbling away. The grout in the shower is developing tiny holes in it. I suspect poor workmanship when the tile was installed. I am hopeful the grout can be cleaned and repaired instead of me needing to retile the whole bathroom. The grout on the floor is bright white (now brown) so i would like to change the color to gray if possible.

Comment: The shower is made from 1 sq. ft. squares of marble and the door casing of the entrance to the shower has 2" x 12" strips of the same marble framing it. Three of the 2"x 12" section fell off the door frame and broke and now need to be replaced. We have some left over 1 foot squares which were used to cut the 2" x 12" strips framing the doorway for the replacement marble needed.
