How Happy Are Detroit's Homeowners?

We have the Motor City to thank for Motown music, Bob Seger and Eminem — not to mention spirited pro hockey. So, it’s not surprising that the city’s residents are pretty happy. Detroit’s homeowners enjoy a nice mix of easy highway access, a reasonable cost of living and rising home values, as well as a revitalization of the downtown area and a surge in entrepreneurship. Plus, while they live in smaller homes than homeowners in other areas of the country, they’ve got lots of natural light, hardwood floors, and air conditioning keeping their homes airy and comfortable. Motor City homeowners could be happier, they say, with updated kitchens and bathrooms — as well as professional landscaping and better organized closets. In fact, more than half say they’d be happier if they could renovate, remodel or add on to their homes.

Detroit's homeowners told us about the completed home projects that have brought them the most joy - and about the projects they desire that will make them even happier. When projects overlap, it means they make homeowners happy whether they're enjoying them now or aspiring to enjoy them later.
