Reviews of Austin Stone Countertop Contractors
Austin, TX
The sales person, Milissa Bousseau, was the most personable, informative and the lowest price contractor. She spent a couple hours of her time with my husband and I at the granite yard to select our granite and at the tile store to talk with a designer there and select our tile backsplash. Jesse did a great job with the installation of the granite and Ricardo/Raul a great job with installing the tile backspash. They had to come back out to touch up the grout a bit but were back out in a day or so and completed to our satisfaction very quickly that day.

Good installation on the same day for the whole project including plumbing

Greg's team at Fox Granite installed a granite slab countertop in my kitchen. He also recommended a professional associate to tile my backsplash based on my own design. In both cases, the work was completed quickly and efficiently and with a high standard of quality. Thanks!

Austin Granite Counters
Granite counters are firmly in the top tier of countertop installations for residential homes. They offer an unmatched combination of beauty and durability. They are stain-resistant, heat-resistant, and impossible to crack and scratch. As if it weren't enough that natural stone countertops are among the hotter home improvement trends throughout the country, granite countertops in Austin homes have all the same advantages that make them so popular, and minimize the one drawback: cost.
Texas Granite
Although granite is created by Mother Nature herself, it goes through a fairly complicated process that inflates the cost of an otherwise expense-free material. Granite must be quarried, transported through a dealer to a stone fabricator, and then to the installer and your home. Needless to say, the shorter the distance the granite has to travel, the cheaper the final cost. Fortunately for Texas homeowners, we have a granite quarry right here in Texas. In fact, you may be aware that the State Capitol building was made from Texas granite. Of course, your granite counter won't have the benefit of the convict labor that your local government used, but you'll still be ahead of homeowners who must have their granite shipped across the country.
Other Stone Counters
As much sense as Texas granite makes, don't tunnel-vision your way into something other than what you want. Marble, slate, sandstone, quartz, and other stone, many of which can also be found in Texas, can all make for great countertops and offer various textures and colors. One tip about choosing your stone is to consider not just the stone, not just the quarry, but the section of the quarry the stone is coming from. Different quarries have different stone qualities and overall integrity. Likewise, stone from the top layers of a quarry may not have the same density or structural integrity, but can be considerably cheaper than premium-quality stone. Be sure you're getting what you paid for, and make the choice that's best for your home and your budget.
Cost of Countertops
In an effort to provide you with valuable information about your Austin granite countertop installation, HomeAdvisor collects data on all the requests we receive. The first question we ask about, and what most homeowners are curious about, is how much their granite countertop is going to cost. Here's what we know: The national average for a granite countertop is about $4,500. This is, of course, just an average. The range for different sized countertops in different quality stones is $1,500-$20,000.
By choosing a Texas granite quarry you can probably shave a few hundred dollars off your total project costs. As you might imagine, homeowners who want a rare stone shipped across the country for a large kitchen counter account for these exponentially-expensive countertops.
Project Length
Many homeowners also want to know how long it's going to take to get their countertop installed. Our data suggests it can take about one to two weeks for your installation. Again, this time can be greatly influenced by the distance your granite must travel. Your project time will likely tend toward the quicker side when choosing a Texas stone quarry. Still, it's rare that we see granite counters installed in less than a week. Of course, for many homeowners in Austin, granite counters are part of a full kitchen remodel that can take up to six weeks to complete.
