San Diego Lawn Service

The outside of your house makes a big impression on anyone who sees it. Whether it's done to please your family, the people in your neighborhood, in-laws, or prospective buyers, keeping your front yard looking good is a top priority for many homeowners in San Diego. Lawn service is important, but it is also time consuming. For those who want to hold onto a little more of their free time every week, hiring professionals to take care of your lawn is often a good solution.

Landscaping versus Lawn Service
Though you'll probably find companies that do a bit of both in San Diego, lawn service is a different task than landscaping. Lawn service generally includes things like mowing grass, pruning bushes and shrubs, clearing the yard of debris, and even fertilizing and pest control. Landscaping, on the other hand, usually deals with changing or maintaining the permanent structure of the property. Things like building walkways and paths, installing edging and sprinklers, and planting trees are all jobs that fall into the landscaping category.

A landscaping company is generally hired one time to perform some sort of major project, while weekly maintenance is more likely to fall under lawn service. San Diego residents that have used one or the other and had a positive experience, however, might want to give that company a ring even if what needs to be done falls a little outside of the company's norm. In some cases, they may be happy to do the work in-house, but at the very least they should be able to give you a good recommendation for a company that will both suit your work needs and have a good attitude, as well.

Sprinklers
Having nearly perfect weather for the vast majority of the year certainly has its benefits, but with the low levels of rainfall in San Diego, lawn care is likely to be more successful if you have a little help. A sprinkler system can pick up the slack of infrequent precipitation in a naturally dry climate, but if you put that system on a timer, it can pick up your slack as well.

Different sprinkler systems work best in different settings. A flat yard can do just fine with a regular spray type sprinkler, while a sloping lawn of significant size will do better with a rotating sprinkler system that can shoot water a decent distance. Flower beds and some gardens prefer a drip irrigation system. No one system is best in every situation, and sometimes a yard will require more than one set up to thrive.

The area you live in will play an important role in what kinds of set-ups and configurations will work best for you, but because even houses on the same block can have different landscaping needs, there is no one system that is perfect for all of San Diego. Lawn service companies are well versed in not only what works best in your area, but what will work best for the specific types of plants and grasses that inhabit your particular lawn; even if you don't need weekly lawn care, it is a good idea to get at least a single professional opinion from a lawn service or landscaping company before you invest in a particular sprinkler set-up or fertilization regimen.

Lawn Aeration
While there are many things that can improve an existing lawn in San Diego, lawn aeration is one that often goes overlooked. Not every property in southern California will benefit from this process, but if your yard looks a little less-than-stunning, this simple process could give it the extra boost it needs to look its best! For average sized properties in San Diego, lawn aeration should take only an afternoon to complete, but its effect will be noticeable for years to come. Of course, you could turn to a local landscaping or lawn service company to do the job for you, but if you're willing to get your hands dirty, you can rent a machine and do your own lawn aeration. If you get a few of your neighbors involved, you might be able to split the cost of the rental and aerate the whole block.

Lawn Maintenance Costs
When you consider the time, effort, and equipment necessary to do all of the tasks that a professional service offers, San Diego lawn maintenance is actually affordable as well as convenient. Expect prices to increase as your use of the service decreases; to have someone come and work on your yard every week might cost $50 or $75 dollars per visit, while hiring lawn service only once or twice a year will most likely run a couple hundred, but cost far less over all. The national average cost for installing a sprinkler system is about $3,000, though we've seen prices range from $1,000 to $6,000 in southern California. For one-time special operations in San Diego (lawn aeration, mulching, putting down fertilizer, etc.), expect to pay a couple hundred dollars.
