Project: Remodel a Kitchen
Arvada, CO

Rather than buying brand new, we decided to invest in the home we love and currently live in. It was by far as large as of an investment as we could have made aside from purchasing new. We were a bit scared about the process of hiring someone and getting work done on our house as we knew it was extensive and we would likely have to move out for a bit. We have two young kiddos so any large investment it scary. Rob and his crew are amazing. Hands down, this was the very best experience we could ever have asked for. Rob walked us through every step. He is a craftsman, a professional and bar none to anyone else we spoke to. He understood the commitment we were making and committed the same in return. Rob and his staff (not subcontracted) removed multiple rooms of popcorn ceiling, fully remodeled our kitchen which included a complete transformation, remodeled a small bathroom, and new hardwood floors throughout with a difficult color request has made our home look better than any new house we could have chosen. Not to mention Evan did a tile job in our laundry/hallway that many people would just flat out refused to do; we could not have asked for a more amazing experience! Anything we ever need done in the future, we know who we will turn to. He also splits up the payments which means that they arenÂ’t using your payments to fund someone elseÂ’s project, nor using someone elseÂ’s payments to fund yours. Thanks Rob, Evan, Jeremy, Tony and hopefully we are not missing anyone because you are great!

Project: Remodel a Kitchen
Lakewood, CO

Rob and his crew made our dream of a new kitchen in our very old house a reality. We not only had to replace flooring, down to leveling the subfloor on a concrete, very unlevel floor, but reframe the walls over cinder block walls, re wire including new electrical service, and change plumbing to accommodate our new kitchen. Rob worked with several other craftsmen to make this happen. I would recommend Rob and high country to anyone considering a kitchen or bath remodel.

Ideas & Inspiration from Denver Addition & Remodeling Contractors

Denver Kitchen Remodeling

The kitchen is the heart of the home. It is where the family gathers and where memories are made. However, a dated kitchen not only presents a problem when it comes to functional meal prep, but seriously affects the value of your home.

Denver, Colorado, homeowners know that a great kitchen can help increase their home's value in this active market that favors sellers in general. With more buyers than there are homes, offering an exceptional kitchen space is an excellent way for Denver homeowners to maximize their home's value and get higher offers. Homeowners need to have a large budget for a kitchen remodel. On average, Denver homeowners pay between $10,417 and $26,032 for a kitchen remodeling project, but can pay upwards of $32,000 for a more extensive finish. To control costs and get the best results, homeowners in Denver need to consider many factors that contribute to the cost of their kitchen remodel as well as vetting the contractors.

Costs for Common Kitchen Remodeling Tasks

When undergoing a kitchen remodel project, it is important to consider which aspects of your kitchen you want to update and compare those costs with your budget. Paying attention to material costs and customization is another way to control both the final price as well as the result of your kitchen remodel project.

The cost for a kitchen remodel in the Denver area stands at $17,190; most homeowners paid between $10,417 and $26,072. This is below the national average of $19,968, so it is possible for Denver homeowners to find some good deals.

Understanding how much each element of your kitchen remodel costs matters. This is an easy way to estimate the total cost of your kitchen remodel, and it is the easiest way to make cuts when necessary by eliminating items you don't need to address right away.

Licensing and Other Requirements

In Denver, Colorado, finding a good contractor to take care of all the various projects for a kitchen remodel is essential for success. In Colorado, contractors must undergo a two-step licensing process before working on any project that requires a building permit or right-of-way permit. The extent of your specific kitchen remodel project and where you are located within the Denver area will determine whether or not these permits are required.

Choosing a licensed contractor gives homeowners the assurance that the person working on their home is experienced in the trade. This is because Denver requires contractors to have a trade-specific supervisor certificate before sitting for the licensure exam along with a specific number of years of experience. Denver offers contractor licenses in the following trades related to kitchen remodeling:

  • Construction
  • Demolition/Moving
  • Electrical
  • Specialty Class D (includes Drywall, Non-Structural Remodel, and Masonry, among others)

Homeowners can check for the status of a particular contractor's license through the city's search tool.

Other Projects to Consider During a Kitchen Remodel

While a kitchen remodel is a complex home improvement project, the extent of the work completed means that adding in associated projects now is a good way to reduce the cost of improving your home. There are several add-on projects that homeowners can add to their Denver-area remodel that will improve their home's value.

Green Updates

Denver is a progressive city with a large population of outdoor enthusiasts and conservationists. Therefore, adding in green elements such as LED lighting, energy-efficient appliances, and water-conserving faucets has a huge appeal. These updates are easy to add into a kitchen.

Including a Kitchen as Part of an Addition

If you are planning on putting an addition onto your home, including a kitchen remodel or expansion in its plans is a great way to achieve a really custom finish, since even the space itself can change. In Denver, the average home addition costs $38,891, a cost which is slightly below the national average of $41,067. However, including a kitchen remodel in an addition would increase the cost, since elements such as cabinetry and countertops have premium price tags.

Hiring an Interior Decorator or Designer

Because function is just as important as beauty, hiring an interior designer to help maximize the area and fuse function with style elevates the quality of your kitchen remodel project. In Denver, the average interior decorator or designer charged $6,871, which is higher than the national average of $5,060.

Whether you love to cook, eat, or just spend time with friends and family, investing in a quality kitchen remodel is one way to elevate your home and improve your life. In Denver, the competitive market for buyers means that there are many people willing to pay premium prices for homes. Therefore, making improvements to your Denver kitchen helps to elevate those prices even more, maximizing the return on this critical home improvement investment area.

Popular Neighborhoods

Denver, nicknamed the Mile-High City due to its elevation, is not only the capital of Colorado, it is the most populated area in the state. The city is known for its laid-back attitude and neighborhoods that feature everything from modern condos and townhomes to stately Victorian mansions.

Denver is a tough city to buy a home in, thanks to an influx of homebuyers and a lack of habitable space. As a result, developers have been racing to complete new high-rise buildings with more livable space. The result is a city with many areas redefined and continuing to evolve. There are a few neighborhoods that stand out from the crowd for their specific housing options:

  • Capitol Hill: A diverse area of the city, Capitol Hill is north of downtown. Primarily developed in the 1920s, it features homes that contrast greatly with the modernity of the nearby downtown high-rises.
  • Cherry Creek: This upscale neighborhood lies to the east of downtown and is known for its large shopping center, which features over 160 stores. The homes and apartments in this area are upscale and new.
  • Uptown: North of the main business district, Uptown is a hub for young professionals who want to live a more urban life. At the forefront of the city's evolution, high-rise apartments are the dominant home in this area.
  • Highlands: Located to the northwest of downtown, the Highlands area is a mix of old and new with a thriving residential sector known as LoHi. Featuring new apartments and townhomes alongside established bungalows, this area has lots of home varieties.
  • Baker Historic District or "Baker": Contrasting old Victorian homes with new apartments and an active nightlife, Baker is another area in Denver that is in flux. One of Denver's older neighborhoods, developers have built up the area's restaurant and bar offerings to appeal to the younger crowd living in the area.
