Comment: Our home is a 1900sq-ft, 2-level condo. We are essentially the bottom unit of a duplex. We have the main floor and ground/basement level floor. It is a converted single family home, that was remodeled to the two units. The echo/footstep noise seems to travel through the ceiling and the auditory noise like TV, talking, dog barking, etc, seems to travel through the walls. (The noise we hear through the ceiling is walking around, dog chewing on his bone, loud footsteps coming down the main stair case.) I don't know what can be done but we certainly do not wish to spend too much as we just purchased the property. I read that you can install soundproof blanket or some sort of vinyl mat to the walls and ceilings. Something important to note is we would likely not have access to the floor of the upstairs unit and would rely on soundproofing from the ceiling below. We would have full access to any wall in our unit though.
