Weekend Warrior: 4 Wall Textures You Need To Know

You might not be a drywall expert, but you’re probably familiar with acoustic (aka, the dreaded popcorn ceiling), orange peel, and knockdown drywall textures. However, if you’re looking for something different, we’ve got four textures worthy of your consideration.

1)      Venetian Plaster

Like all the textures on our list, Venetian plaster is applied by hand rather than with a sprayer. As you might expect with the name, this style mimics the look of a Venetian wall and is perfect if you’re going for a rustic or old world look. It’s probably the most labor-intensive texture, so be prepared to spend a bit more if you go this direction.

2)      Trowelled

Given its name, you can probably guess how this type of drywall is applied. Applied in a semi-circle using a drywall knife, trowelled drywall is perfect when you’re going for a stucco look. And while it might look relatively easy to apply, it takes a keen eye and steady hand to get right.

3)      Mud Swirl

Less a swirl and more of a semi-circle, the mud swirl look is a great choice if you’re looking to go for the mid-century modern aesthetic. It’s a texture that looks deceptively easy to apply, but is actually quite difficult to get right.

4)      Brush texture

Finally, a texture that doesn’t require an expert to apply. Brush textures are easy (and quick) to apply, and they look good to boot. If you want a unique look but don’t want to spend the extra cash, you can’t go wrong with a brush texture.
