Great idea but....
The app is a great idea but...
(1) I can't find the companies I regularly use. I also had certain recommended pros on the app and then received an email with yet even different recommendations and could never find some that were originally recommended.
(2) You are unable to see a compete directory of contact information of the companies, so you don't know where they are and can only communicate with them thru the app.
(3) I'm assuming only companies that register with Home Advisor appear, so you may not find your favorite companies.
(4) I entered a project, and selected "in planning stage" and received 8-10 unsolicited calls the next day from the top three recommended companies wanting the work! Maybe this is good for some people but not what I wanted.
SUMMARY: While the idea is good, it falls short of giving the home owner the information they need to make an informed decision - sadly, this is because of the intentional limitations of the app that are designed to make it profitable for the app owners, and provide leads to companies, while giving no power to the home owner to research and choose a company and connect with the company you want.
When limitations like this affect the intended purpose of the app (which I thought was to help the home owner) then its a failure, and will not last.
Convenient
This is a convenient app to use on occasion and it has been helpful yet I don't believe anything can be more reliable than word of mouth. Overall it seems to me at least that people are becoming overly dependent on the internet and not reaching out to others as much as we used to. That part is troubling and I do hope things like this ultimately do not replace learning from friends and family who they have become to rely on. Nonetheless, an app like this certainly does serve a purpose and when needed, I have found it quite helpful.
Pros they recommend
I use this site for many different services for properties in two different states. Sometimes the pros they recommend are great and very proactive but on other services it's not as good. It just really varies.
I have had problems using the app to schedule an appointment. From the consumer side it will say 9am confirmed. However the Pro states on his side that appointment is between 9-11
So my advice is to call the pro the day before to confirm times since this pro told me this has been on going issue
