Design Director (San Francisco)
The design director is responsible for creating and directing visual approaches across all aspects of the magazine. She or he will act as a deputy to the creative director by reviewing pages and art concepts, managing designer workloads, designing stories, and acting as a main point of contact with editors. She or he will collaborate with members of the design, editorial, photo, web, and video teams to ensure the highest level of visual execution for each story across all platforms.
The ideal candidate will propose provocative and cohesive design solutions grounded in editorial storytelling and a strong use of typography. She or he will support the creative director to manage a team of designers, and to develop and maintain brand systems across multiple platforms. The WIRED design director is a collaborative leader and self-starter with strong typographic skills and a passion for innovation.
Head of Operations (San Francisco)
WIRED is seeking an experienced head of operations to oversee our editorial team’s staffing, ongoing operations, and procedures. The goal is to secure and improve the work of the editorial team to drive extensive and sustainable growth. As a member of the core leadership team, this role reports to the editor in chief and publisher.
You provide the leadership, management, and vision necessary to ensure WIRED has the right operations and people in place to effectively produce world-class journalism for print, digital, and emerging platforms. You are responsible for the efficiency of our team and the work we do. You lead the operations for a diverse set of editorial teams and work closely with our finance and legal partners, our print and web production partners, our marketing partners, and our HR team. You are charged with translating WIRED’s mission, core values, and business goals to our editorial team as well as our corporate and external partners.
Senior Art Director, Platforms (San Francisco)
The digital art director is responsible for creating and developing all visuals and UI/UX for WIRED.com and related platforms. She or he will be responsible for directing and commissioning all visuals and design elements, including typography, illustrations, icons, animations, and videos for daily and long-form article layouts. She or he will collaborate with members of the design, editorial, marketing, development, and product teams to research, develop, and execute user-centered design applications.
The ideal candidate will quickly and easily understand constraints and propose effective editorial design solutions based on product requirements, user goals, business objectives, and strategy. She or he will support the design leads to develop interaction design concepts and produce detailed documentation to communicate site design/functionality. This person is a self-starter with a passion for innovation, strong interaction design skills, and an eye for aesthetics.
Assistant Research Editor (San Francisco)
WIRED is looking for an assistant research editor. This position, based in WIRED’s San Francisco offices, entails fact-checking feature articles, infographics, and front-of-the-book items for accuracy. This is an excellent position in which to exercise and hone reporting, writing, and editing skills in an atmosphere where the work is valued. The assistant research editor works with senior editors, writers, designers, and photo editors to ensure that every word and image is factually correct. Researchers also report and write for the print and digital editions of WIRED, and they help curate the homepage of WIRED.com.
Engineering Manager (San Francisco)
WIRED is seeking a new engineering manager to build the next generation of WIRED.com. Lead a world-class development team and iconic tech brand as you take on exciting challenges, like upgrading to HTTP/2 and moving to our new platform based on Node.js with React views. We’re looking for someone who has a proven track record of shipping products with reliable, maintainable code and who wants to apply their engineering talent to creating new and innovative experiences.
