It's basically a closing chapter to a feeble trilogy that started out pretty well and then ran out of gas, and now must serve as a prequel to shadowy X-related endeavors yet to come.
Peter Rainer
Some of the franchise stalwarts, such as Jennifer Lawrence's Mystique, are given too little to do. Most are given too much.
Matthew Lickona
Without a compelling villain, it's hard to resist feeling like it's just more of the (mutated) same.
Barry Hertz
Comic fans will be mystified. Movie fans will be confused. Everyone will leave disappointed.
Adam Graham
There's no spark, and everyone lumbers through the motions. The apocalypse, it turns out, is deadly dull.
Peter Travers
Enough already. Singer throws so much mutant at us that nothing sticks. I was almost rooting for Trump to impose a quota.

Look, is this the best superhero movie? No. Is this the best X-men movie? No (Days of Future past was better) But it had some solid moments, and some slid fan service. Also this is the ebst Xavier we've seen in all six movies. James Macavoy plays Professor X like a true, fully fleshed out version person where as Patrick Stewart played him, whilst briliantly, more like an icon. The cast is, mostly, great, its shot really well, and it brings up some interesting ideas about man's place in the world/universe and religion. The young cast, Storm, Jean, Scott and Nightcrawler were awesome. Evan Peters as Quicksilver steels the show as usual now. So basically If you're a hardcore X-men fan, and have (relatively enjoyed the "Singer-verse", you'll likely really like/love this movie. If not, then its really up in the air. Also the opening sequence and subsequent title sequence are amazing and the probably the best of any superhero movies of the past 2 years (maybe on par with Deadpool's)!!! Nobody does an opening sequence like the X-men movies.
There are good movies and there are bad movies. This is a bad movie. There is no coherent story. There are no compelling characters. There are just plain awful CGI. There is terrible acting. There is banal dialogue. There is a barely two dimensional villain. This movie felt like it took forever to be over - I thought it was almost done at one point only to discover that there was still more than an hour and half left to go - it was torturous to watch (maybe I should have taken a few breaks but I just wanted it to be over and I wanted to say that I actually watched it - what an idiot.) And WTF was Hugh Jackman in this??!?? FFS! We can't have ONE goddamn X-Men movie without him??! Huh!?! JFC!!! Rent, DO NOT buy.
WOW!!! How can anyone NOT like this movie? The performance was astounding! The movie had all the best characters and even the Wolverine made an appearance. Story line made perfect sense if you paid attention. One of the best X-Men movies ever! Jean showed her true power in this movie. A Phoenix will always rise from the ashes! Storm was there when it counted! All I can say is Love, Love this movie!!!!!😍😍 Really?? How can anyone say this is a flat and boring movie! If you pay attention then you will know what's going on! And of course there is no apocalypse. Anyone should know that! Also, how is the movie rushed by adding the Wolverine? Wolverine is practically immortal, so it is plausible that he could have met the other X-Men in their early years. Why doesn't anyone have an imagination anymore? I grew up on marvel comics! Some people just don't remember or don't know what movies were like 30 yrs ago!
!!! I was expecting to be let down pretty bad but it was actually not terrible. I'm glad it wasn't wolverine the movie again. Not that I am hating on Hugh Jackman (aka Huge Jacked man lol) everyone knows he's the man. Though I am glad we got to look at some other characters. Also the young actors that played storm Cyclops and Jean were not bad at all come on guys and the last like minute shot where they're all battle ready with the classic costumes I mean come on that was sick. You people are too picky nowadays
So awful.....just so very awful. How is it possible to make a x-men that us worse than Brett Ratner's X3? Bryan Singer sure found a way. The acting is so flat and boring. The story is almost non-existent, sams goes for character development. Can't even begin to get into whole time line thing. Singer isn't even trying to keep it all together, it's a mess. Just a flat out awful movie. They should just leave the x-men alone.
X-Men: Desperation It's hard to know where to begin. The marionette-like acting? The plodding dialogue? The fact that the timeline was 20 years after the last installment yet no one has aged and Quicksilver still lives in his mom's basement playing videogames? The overpowered super-villian with a God complex and the emotional range of a mackaral? The fact that Magneto nearly destroyed the entire planet, yet at the end everyone enjoys a good reminiscing chuckle, slaps backs, and walks away smiling into the sunset? Meh...
Singer is the new Zack Snyder! I'm still trying to figure out why Mystique was in this movie. She didn't do anything. Oh, and the big bad guy from ancient Egypt kills everyone... by burying them in sand. Get it? He might as well have come from Hollywood and tried to kill everyone with a cruddy movie. Oh sorry---that's Singer's job.
Could finish the trailer This movie looked so bad, which is why I did not go ser it in theaters. Usually I will give those kinds of movies a second chance when the come out, but I could not make it through the trailer. This movie still looks horrible. I hate how much they tried to use Jennifer Lawrence. Her character has no business being a main character.
Just crap. Completely off the wall, all over the place. Redundant. I don't know why Hollywood caters to Jennifer Lawrence to make her character seem more important than she really is. Mystique did nothing in this entire film yet people looked up to her as though she did. Jennifer Lawrence made the character too emotionally weak unlike Rebecca R. I hope this is the last X-men movie they make because this was an epic fail on all levels.
X-Cr*p The worst of the worst... First hour...too much individual stories with a bad film cut to add to it (no flow)... Then the best and only part of the movie was when Quicksilver arrived. And when in the hell did some much tech arrived in the 70's and 80's. Bring back the old cast to save the next movie!
The world did not end -- and neither did this slow paced movie With apocalypse in the title you expect to be on the edge of your seat but I was instead on the brink of boredom and edge of sleep. Too many characters ended up feeling like cameos vs. deep character development. You still need main characters to root for...and of course to have a good story you need a great villain but this guy was one dimensional. X-Men has been fading over that last several films and spin-offs. The apocalypse just took care of future X-Men films for this director and cast.
It was Okay Wolverine scenes wasn't right. It felt rushed or just tossed in there. You almost feel as if someone wanted to just make a film on famous heroes but never picked up a comic. It's bad when cosplayers nail the looks. But costume designers fail. Cyclops outfit and chrome visor looked god awful at the end very cheap. Wish I could get my 14 dollars back.
It's okay.. (Spoilers) If you were expecting a solid performance for Apocolypse like the 90's Television cartoon series, you will be sadly mistaken. While the movie is entertaining, it lacks much in actual delivery. If they were less focused on trying to do poorly choreographed wire work to get Olivia Munn's face to spin around at the right time, they could have focused on the four horsemen actually feeling like a threat to someone instead of visual arm candy to a boring Apocolypse. Still an okay movie..but just Okay..
Great movie I seen this movie in Theaters it's good but can get a little boring.... I am glad that X-Men Fans complained so much About Apocalypse during the "Trailer Days" saying that he looked too much like Ivan Ooze from MMPR... Forcing Bryan Singer to go back and reshoot Apocalypse scenes with a better different look.... this is the first time Movie Director's have actually listened to their fans and when does this release in Google Play??? I have already Pre Ordered the Movie
Blatantly mocking... "I have been called many names... Yahweh, etc..." -Apocalypse. The story even goes as far as to say the Bible got the 4 horseman from this Apocalypse character. If it was any other religion, Muslims for one, this movie and it's mockery would have been in the news! This is not a movie for any Christian viewer.
Has Indeed Destroyed This World Watched this movie 1:45 deep and couldn't stands no more. Third in the series is the worst, yes, true of this more so than any other movie that may come to mind. Completely got characterization wrong. Continuity has become meaningless. Story not at all compelling. I am annoyed and you should be too.
WTF? Am I the only one trying to figure out how this movie ties in to the end of DOFP? Wasn't Mystique on the boat disguised as Stryker at the end? Where did that plot line end up? In professor X's colostomy bag? Quicksilver did steal the show, as expected. Unfortunately, not enough to make up for the rest of the movie. What a disappointment.
The Best Superhero movie of the decade!!! This is Bryan Singer's Best X-Men Yet. I never thought that the world's most powerful Mutant could be defeated! I'm glad that they had the Wolverine at some point. Its not the same without him. I believe that the X-Men are a lot like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. They both work in the shadows and only come out in the spotlight when its necessary. Plus, I think Inhuman is another word for Mutant. I wish that this movie and the other X-Men were part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
X-men: Apocalypse I normally don't rate movies but this one was great! Some of the scenes and plot related to the bible. This one is definitely a go!! Ignore the negative comments had plenty of action too
Great special fx, terrible story/acting No depth to the story, terrible acting. Lots of action but not worth the price. Wait til it's on sale. Jennifer Lawrence is a terrible actress with no range. Horrible lead actress. The best actor in the movie didn't even have a speaking role. Almost as bad as the fantastic four reboot.
I gave this a 5 star blc I really love this movie.!! But there were 2 things that made me mad. 1. Apocalypse is so dumb. He has four followers that mostly turn on him. 2. Jennifer Lawrence/ mystique does barley any fighting in this. On top of that she is my favorite x men character . but she does get choked up with i also don't like. But other than this, this was a good x men movie.
It didn't try to take risks as a movie. Some characters were just there and didn't have much of a backstory. The villain was just another villain that wanted to take over the world. His motivation was clear however there wasn't much else. for his character.
Terrible. They need to give the rights to the X-men back to Marvel. They've totally screwed up the X-men storyline. Singer's own movies don't fit with each other. If you read the comics, don't watch this movie.
Great movie I wasn't expecting much from this movie based on some of the reviews I was seeing, but I was very pleasantly surprised! I think this movie is on par with Days of Future Past. There are a lot of things that most people seemed to either love or hate, no in between. I loved all of them. There was also a good bit of fan service, which I greatly enjoyed as well. The worst part of this movie is the action towards the end. It's just overblown and kind of boring tbh. But everything else is great.
I liked it very much and have been an x men fan for many years. Was I expecting them to tell the same story as before ? No if I want to watch reruns of the 90s cartoon I have them on google play. I really enjoyed the new take on classic characters its nice to see some evolution. To those x men fans who are all upset quit your whining and enjoy a good story. Jeez some people are just never happy.
OK movie This movie was ok. Apocalypse was underwhelming and the plot was typical Hollywood writing. Action scenes were limited, short and underwhelming also. Left a lot to be desired but I was entertained
The x man It seems like a very good movie and even tho some things in it might be true they know that they don't stand a chance fighting with the lamb of God his son special effects really keeps you on the edge. But the bullshit they're trying to pull in Detroit of my life has cost them and they don't really give a fuck. GOD bless.mr.g.reddick.
Meh Magneto seemed more powerful than Apocalypse. Many of the characters were underdeveloped yet again especially the horsemen. After Days of Future Past, this is a disappointment as Apocalypse is Fox version of Thanos or Darkseid and they wasted his first debut. Things look promising in the future but this was avoidable. Its okay just meh. I liked BVS better, though the special effect and powers are visually stunning.
Not that good Just what you'd expect from an X-Men film, not horrible but nowhere near great, the studio manages to just scrape by with a cohesive movie just to collect enough ticket sales to make another sequel. Maybe if people stopped buying into these mediocre movies the rights would return to where they belong and we would finally get good films in the mainstresm MCU.
Sloppy yet watchable The acting in this one was passable. Most of the fight scenes had a lot of "worry" physics making it look sloppy.
X-meh Bore-pocalypse Almost no character development in exchange for out of place action. Many actors appear to be phoning it in. I wasn't a fan of Days of Future Past either though. I don't think Bryan Singer could ever do these... Best Xmen movie is First Class in my opinion. Magneto steals the show then leaves us hanging.
Beats Civil War IMHO Lots of story and character development. Amazing SFX and actors make this one my favorite X-Men movies of all time! Although no Marvel movie will ever be perfect until the FULL ROSTER is available. I love how they are milking this movie for all its worth in theatres. Bring this to DVD already! Minus 2 stars for making us wait!
Welcome to the 80s This was by far one my by favorite X-Men movies. And my favorite Storm! Storm has always been my favorite X-Men hero! And I never really felt the she got her time to shine. And wile I feel they could have featured her more it was great to see her become the wind riding weather goddess we all love. It was awesome to see Jean embrace her powers darkness and all and become a Phenix. Oscar Issac did a great job playing Apocalypse, best X-Men villain ever!
Waste of money I hated this movie, it gave me such a headache. I was actually thrilled when the movie was over. I will not be wasting my money to go see anymore X-Men movies again.
Apocalypse The baddest mutant ever !! And they didn't do shit with him.. and the ending was the worst part
Take Xmen and give it a Transformers plot. Boring and hopes to cash in on seeing different versions of characters you've seen before.
Great Movie. Great Plot. Its just that Critics enjoy Bandwagon hate The Movie was awsome. Going in the Life of Eric and his emotional struggle. Apocalypse, The strongest Mutant in the World, wants to destroy the human race. He gather his four horsemen, which include Magneto and Storm. The X-MEN fighting apocalypse and his four horsemen. Quicksilver also made this movie worth it. I recomend seeing it for yourself. Please dont judge a movie without seeing it.
I definitely enjoyed this movie. The mutant phenomena was brought to a new understanding of how things could have begun, and how power in the wrong hands would prove to be devastating. I also liked that the X-Men were continuing with a greater knowledge of how fragile our world is when powerful people get power hungry.
very meh Days of Future Past was the better X-men movie. This one was just bad. I usually love these movies, but this one had me bored and unenthused about the x-men team. I don't recommend buying it, or watching it if there's another choice in the mix. lol
Don't listen to haters. SERIOUSLY. This is one of the best X-Men movies and doesn't deserve all the hate OR the REALLY CRAPPY Rotten Tomatoes rating they're SO FOND of just dishing out these days.
