Really Good Dinner

Dined on December 18, 2015

This is the third time I have been here. Twice I went with a group of moms and we had a blast. One time we all ordered our own food. The second time we ordered lots of apps and pizzas and a few bottles of wine. Both times were great. Recently I took my 10 year old who is on the bubble of wanting a kids menu sometimes and not others. They did have some items for kids but for some reason they are not printed anywhere. The waitress told us all of them once and then again when she came back. That would be my only suggestion really - that they print up a kids menu. Otherwise it is good for groups and family, good food, good service. I'll be back!

Everything was great from the service to the food. The only con was the music they were playing. It felt like we were having dinner at a club... I thought if I turn around I would see people dancing behind me.

Five Stars! Doppio Zero is the place to go for authentic Italian cuisine. The pizzas are amazing as are all the entrées. Doppio Zero is a local South Bay treasure.

Finally got around to eating at Doppio Zero and was extremely impressed by their pizza. It was authentic Neopolitan-style pizza and the Calzone was equally good. They also had some good looking pastas, but haven't tried those. Service was friendly and attentive and the restaurant had a pleasant buzz. Ranks as one of the best places in the South Bay for pizza.

The octopus appetizer/salad was delicious; mushroom pizza pretty good; great draft beer selection. Too bad our evening was soured by our server's bad attitude. She was abrupt and didn't like to answer questions about the menu choices, even walked away when we asked about the salad.

Review of Doppio Zero from November 20, 2015

Dined on November 20, 2015

Excellent food, very good cocktails, mediocre service. Way too noisy for my taste. We were a party of five with reservations but they put us at a table for four and added one seat in the aisle way for the fifth party.

The Neapolitan pizza here is great - great dough, flavorful sauce, a little cheap on the toppings. Highly recommend the polpetine (meatball) appetizer. Don't expect to be seated on time, even if you have a reservation. They're always running 10-20 min late.

Great service, subpar food

Our waiter was super friendly and very helpful. We accidentally got the wrong wine - I was too busy talking to our waiter to notice the wrong label. We'd ordered a 2010 bottle of wine, but on our second sip we'd noticed it tasted very young - it was a 2014 (different vintner, too). Mentioned it to the waiter so we wouldn't have to pay for the more expensive one we had ordered - but he swapped the wine out right away. MY husband got the ragout over pasta, which came out hot and delicious. I ordered the lamb special, but asked for no blue cheese on my squash. My lamb, ordered "as chef prefers" was cool, but okay. The potato was HOT and crispy. The grilled squash? Ice cold and hard, fresh from fridge. My best guess is they part cook the squash earlier in the day, then put it under a broiler with the cheese to finish it. As I ordered no cheese, they skipped that part. This was our 2nd or 3rd time here, and both times there was a problem with at least one dish. last time, the pizza crust was way too thick and gooey. Maybe stick with pasta if you go here, as that's been good every time.

Doppio Zero

Dined on November 4, 2015

Once you have traveled to Italy and experienced the wonderful, fresh food, the restaurants in the U.S. pale in comparison. It is so special to find a place that uses good ingredients and cares about the preparation. Doppio Zero has the taste of Italy that I miss so much, along with a fun and energetic environment.

An almost excellent pizza experience....

Dined on October 24, 2015

A generally very good experience but as true lover of Neapolitan and northern Italian pizzas, I did not find my panacea in Mountain View. I considered my dining experience at their bar to be very good. Quality of food was very good to excellent, service friendly and attentive, setting predictable. There were telling details that left me impressed with the food .Such as the egg plant pizza topping. D.O. takes the time to prepare (dry and parboil) to get great texture and flavor not the way most places just grill and create a wet sponge. While all the ingredients are there, the magic in the assembly and cooking are coming up short on excellent. Very few places in the country get it so right that you are in heaven when you chew on that moist, delicate chewy crust with the perfect toppings.

Too loud, poor service, decent food

VIP
Dined on October 3, 2015

We came here in order to use a gift certificate. We had been once before and thought it was delicious. However, this time we were very disappointed. The restaurant is incredibly loud, such that you can't talk to your table companion. The energy is frenetic and stressful. The food was okay, but nothing I can't get elsewhere. The thing was though, the service was horrible. We didn't get food that we ordered, they were rude, it was a nightmare. I would not go back and was really disappointed in the restaurant.

Food is Excellent

Dined on October 3, 2015

We had dinner with our kids there ages 15 and 20. The food was excellent from the truffle fries to the caprese salad. I had the ravioli, my husband had scallops, the kids had lasagna and Margarita pizza. Service is very good, and it's pretty noisy in there, so maybe not the best choice for a romantic intimate dinner.

Great pizza and menu!

Dined on October 2, 2015

We had promised our 3 year old pizza for dinner but wanted to eat somewhere nice, so this was ideal with excellent quality Neapolitain pizza. Also the menu was wonderful for both adults and children - our daughter picked hot dog and French fries pizza, combining two of her favorite meals in one! The brussels sprouts appetizer was also very good, and the cauliflower appetizer was interesting (although they were served with currants (i.e. small dried grapes), not blackcurrants as the menu suggested). We loved sitting on the sidewalk. We had booked for 7pm but my husband was stuck in traffic, so we weren't allowed to have our table until 7:30pm by which time our daughter was famished, but luckily once we ordered the food arrived very quickly before a meltdown set in.

Good food, not a memorable special celebration

Dined on September 26, 2015

I had heard great things about this restaurant and made a reservation with Open Table. In the notes I mentioned that it was my birthday. We had an 8 pm reservation but did not get seated until 8 pm. The hostess seemed very stressed, and I didn't envy her trying to juggle the reservations and walk ins. We were seated by a table way back by the kitchen. Our waiter was okay, but seemed preoccupied and rushed (probably because the place was packed.) Once we got the food, I really enjoyed the brussel sprouts and cauliflower salad. For my taste, the pizza was just okay but I know that many people love it. I felt disappointed that my birthday wasn't acknowledged. Next time I'd remind the waiter. I recommend going if you can go at a non-prime time.

A nice local

Dined on September 26, 2015

Have been here numerous times now , the food has never disappointed, yes there's lots of pizza and pasta places but they don't all do it well! The inside can get quite loud so if you want vibrant its fine if you want a quite meal or private conversation you are better outside. The only thing I would reccomend is if the booking system would allow you to choose inside or outside as we booked a table for 8pm but because we wanted a table outside we had to wait til about 8.30. Love the fungo pizza and the special this week was lobster linguine which was excellent. And very friendly waiting staff.

Great Italian place in the south bay!

VIP
Dined on September 25, 2015

I am Italian and I am usually disappointed by Italian restaurants in the area since they mix italian and american components. Doppio zero instead is a real Italian place with a great pizza. Pasta and the starters are also very good. Another thing I appreciate is the Italian wine list, usually very poor in other places: this is one of the very few places where I prefer Italian to local wine.

Dined on September 17, 2015

Came for dinner with 2 other friends on a Thursday evening around 6. Ate outside on the street patio. Noisy time of night and fumes from the cars will have me making a different choice in the future. Food came quickly and was delicious. Our waiter seemed irritated by our order of one pizza and 2 salads for 3 people, and no alcohol.

This was my second time at Doppio Zero with a group of friends and we had a blast. The servers were fabulous and didn't seem to mind that we took a table of 10 for 4 hours. They were great at helping select what to order and make sure we had enough. We shared wine, appetizers and a few pizzas and it was all delicious.

PIZZA!

Dined on August 30, 2015

I love eating here! We came here for my sister's birthday and we decided to revisit this restaurant. The food does not disappoint, especially the brick oven pizza! The menu is small enough so you're not spending hours looking at the menu but not small enough where you feel like you don't have any options. I made reservations through Opentable and I was surprised there was a spot! I love it here and I definitely recommend coming here!

No more Fried Artichokes.

VIP
Dined on August 12, 2015

They took fried artichokes off the menu, which was the best offering. Instead, had the fried calamari, shrimp and "vegetables" which, unfortunately, consisted of a few LIMP sticks of zucchini and a carrot stick. Very oversalted. Rest of meal was lackluster. My dining partner commented that, when they returned our change in cash, they rounded up, but in their favor. It was a little tacky. If they were going to keep some of our excess change, they should have at least acknowledged and asked if it was okay that they rounded the bill up. We are both inclined to not return.

Dined on August 10, 2015

On vacation from overseas and trying a lot of different style restaurants. No complaints here, two adults and two children and all enjoyed their meal. The service was quick and friendly with assistance choosing a nice bottle of wine. The pizza was good and pasta went down a treat. All in all pleased all round.
