1. Britain's Worst Kitchen: MyBuilder Liverpool Makeover

10 views 1 day ago
In April 2014 MyBuilder launched a nationwide hunt for Britain's Worst Kitchen. Over 100 people entered and 1300 members of the piublic voted for a shortlist of 12 from which a winner was selected.

Paul Currie was chosen as runner up. He had survived for 2 years with no units, no fridge, a borrowed Baby Belling and bare brick walls.

In the end MyBuilder felt that, even though a second kitchen had not been planned, they simply couldn't walk away from Paul, so together with tradesmen who stepped up to help out, they set about getting donations and mustering support...

And thanks to those generous MyBuilder tradesmen and local supply companies, Paul will soon have the kitchen he has often dreamt about.

You can read more of his story on his blog - http://thecuggsmeister.word... - where he writes about his struggle with depression and how he came to enter the MyBuilder.com competition.

A big thanks to all the helpers and donors:
- Branch Manager Gavin Ledder from Travis Perkins Huyton, Liverpool for supplying plastering materials and paint
- MyBuilder Tradesmen Ged Parsley of Wollton Plastering and Rendering (wooltonplasteringandrendering), Justin Whittam of Blackcat Bespoke Woodwork (pbolan) and Plastering and James Coburn of JWC Property Services (jwcproperty) for using their skills and time to help us out
- The Cooperative Electrical Shop for supplying all the big kitchen appliances
- Frank Dineley from Merseyside Carpets for providing and fitting the flooring
- Smileworks, the Liverpool dentist, for buying Paul a sink and tap as well as giving him a dental makeover

In Paul's own words: ""Their kindness is just amazing - you don't know what a difference the kitchen will make to our lives! I feel like my life is starting all over again!"

Without these folk, Paul's kitchen would never have happened and he would never have told his story. So do check out his blog and gain an insight into how it feels to be clinically depressed and the problems and challenges that poor mental health can throw up. Show less
