Choose the right multi language solution

    Hi,

    I wonder if this could be the right plugIn to do a second language version of an already existing wp website for my client.

    Because what I already have from my client is a complete translated .xml file with everything translated into the the new language.

    So I guess with this plugIn I would have to transform the simple wp installation into a multisite installation and then import the .xml.

    My only fear is that I heard from various parts that the multisite installation can create difficult server side issues that would be hard to handle for a relative newbie in wp.

    Would it be a reasonable alternative to not use any plugIn at all. I.g. doing a real separate wp-installallation, modify only the hard links to the uploads (images)?
    There will be very few real blog traffic on the site by the part of my client so management of 2 different sites would be relatively easy.

    Yes, you can do that too. There is no problem with this idea… Any solution has its pros and cons. Personally I prefer the multisite but I know that this solution does not suit the needs of a beginner.

    if I’d go for the multisite solution would this be possible with a complete finished .xml file in the second language?

    If both site-“parts” would share the same data base would the newly imported .xml file (valid only for the second language) not overwrite parts of the existing data and create confusion with original data in the first language?

    Would it be possible with this plugIn then to import the whole .xml (containing only one language)? Or must there be a .xml file containing BOTH languages?

    Jesus, this stuff gets me confused a bit 🙁

    Yes.

    The sites/blogs share the same database but they have their own tables so there is no problem 😉

    No, every site/blog has it’s own import/export.

    For this time I opted for the separate sites option.
    But I will keep the multisite solution in mind.
