Last time I did mentioned I want to improve/rebuild the media editor. See https://make.wordpress.org/core/2013/08/08/excellent-3-8-brainstorm-session-today-people-talked-about/#comment-9807.

There were a number of things on that initial post that aren’t on this list. You should introduce your project at the next 3.8 meeting. Be sure to bring as much information as possible from this list about what you plan on working on.

WOW, i really like those features, especially a mockup of the “Pages and Menus Merge”, it’s a very good idea! Can be added as a new “Screen Option”.

CEUX will be on Tuesdays, 13:00 UTC-4

@Sam Anyone working on Appearance > Editor? That functionality would work great with the current WP admin Post list/edit pages paradigms: first a list page of all theme files then click Edit link to see the editor for a selected file. And sorry to be late to the party, out of town but interested in the idea of a release geared towards functionality as plugins. Thx.

No one has signed up for it, but if you’re interested, I recommend finding other interested parties and getting a plugin started with your ideas. 🙂

Here is a mockup for a front-end editor: http://avryl.org/mpttt/. It’s still very basic, but I wanted to share it as soon as possible.
I’m not sure if front-end editing posts falls under Inline Editing/Designing entirely, in a sense this falls more under CUEX and a lot of it will depend on what they’re doing.

Hey there! I recommend you introduce your project at the chat this Wednesday 21:00 UTC. Bring as much information as you can about what you want to work on and who else is involved.
Avryl 8:19 pm on August 19, 2013 Permalink | Log in to Reply
Okay! 🙂 I think something went wrong with your shortcode…

Here’s also a short video mockup:

We’ll have a small meeting about front-end/inline editing/designing on #wordpress-ui Thursday 20:00 UTC (tomorrow), feel free to join if you’re interested in this. Based on this and irc, @georgestephanis @trishasalas @saracannon @melchoyce are any of you still interested to help?
Avryl 1:12 pm on August 23, 2013 Permalink | Log in to Reply
@melchoyce @samuelsidler I’ve make an overview for the front-end posting and editing feature on github as discussed yesterday. I realise though it’s quite a big feature and it’s not likely to make 3.8.

I don’t think this is the right place to post the followups, since this is the tracking page for all the features as plugins, and not the post for that individual plugin…

Should “Post Formats” and “Favicon” be on this list for consideration?
Sam Sidler 8:05 pm on August 21, 2013 Permalink | Log in to Reply
If someone is actively working on refining post formats as a plugin, they didn’t speak up during the chat. Bringing it up during the 3.8 dev chat would be a good time to get it on this list, preferably with a list of interested parties and a regular meeting time / office hours.
I’m not really sure what “favicon” is in this context though.
shaunandrews 8:20 pm on August 21, 2013 Permalink | Log in to Reply
It feels like CEUX is the spiritual successor to Post Formats.
WraithKenny 8:35 pm on August 21, 2013 Permalink | Log in to Reply
They have been punted from Trac with the expressed intent of making them feature testing plugins (Favicons quite a while ago). I do suppose if anyone does have interest, they’ll champion those themselves. I brought them up since things slip sometimes from people’s minds.

I have a proof of concept plugin up for the signup improvements idea: https://github.com/MartyThornley/better-signups
Any feedback would be awesome!
Sam Sidler 8:59 pm on August 21, 2013 Permalink | Log in to Reply
The discussion from the 3.8 dev chat made it sound like most your changes could happen in core for 3.7 even and didn’t need to be done in a plugin. Can you touch base with @nacin about that before pursuing a plugin project?
If a plugin project is the right way to go, you should setup a weekly IRC chat with other interested parties and get things up in the plugin directory. It’d also be great to see a spec/overview, á la the admin help one (or any of the others!).

I’ll lead Omnisearch, and @japh has expressed an interest in joining as well. I’d like to shanghai the #wordpress-sfd channel, as this is basically aimed at helping people get support and find things, so forums and documentation should be omnisearchable as well. Aiming for Fridays at 20:00 UTC, but may move it later if any aussies don’t wanna get up that soon.
Japh 12:45 am on August 22, 2013 Permalink | Log in to Reply
LOL I can do 20:00UTC (6am my time), but earlier would be difficult.
George Stephanis 7:03 pm on August 23, 2013 Permalink | Log in to Reply
Let’s make it 22:00 UTC then? And currently flying today, so I’ll circle back with you at some point in the morning (your time)

Hey George. How are things going with the publishing UI? https://github.com/georgestephanis/publish-ux
Today we have all the info up top right. Too much info to relate to so it easily gets skipped. But having a top right sensitive box which responds to the selection of save as draft, publish, private, password will help a lot.
trishasalas 12:35 am on August 22, 2013 Permalink | Log in to Reply
I am still interested, I’ve been tinkering with some inline help UI ideas.

Is anyone interested in adding a proper user access control list to WordPress? Some plugins out there already address some of this, but they are either old/not maintained or don’t work as expected. It would be nice to have an official plugin-as-a-feature developed/blessed by WP. The idea is to have a fine grained access control system that allows big organizations with many editors/authors, to assign privileges and to be able to control what their editors can and can’t do. I am willing to collaborate to this!
Sam Sidler 9:39 pm on August 28, 2013 Permalink | Log in to Reply
There may be others interested. This is the wrong place to ask.
I’d recommend bringing it up as a project idea at the next 3.8 chat (keep tabs on the make/core blog). If others are interested (or even if they’re not!) you could start a project and get involved in making it a reality!
