Did you know that the Earth is not closest to the Sun during the Northern Hemisphere summer months? In fact, it will be at its farthest point from the Sun for this year at 19:41 UTC on Monday, July 6, 2015. Read more about it here:
http://www.timeanddate.com/astronomy/perihelion-aphelion-solstice.html
The Earth is closest to the Sun two weeks after the December solstice and farthest from the Sun, two weeks after the June Solstice. The occurrences of these dates so close to each other is a coincidence and has no special significance.

Heads up! The night sky will be graced by a Blue Moon tomorrow, Friday, July 31, 2015.

Are Blue Moons rare and really blue in color?

http://www.timeanddate.com/astronomy/moon/blue-moon.html
'Once in a blue moon', suggests something is very rare. But just how rare is a Blue Moon?
