Fantastic Fantasy: Freja

Freja kissing Lara over Baptiste

Dreaming of Freja - Freja kissing Lara over Baptiste

Talk about pre-mature ageing. Is it because of my irregular lifestyle that I am turning into an old old old woman in lightning speed? Otherwise, how else could you explain why I could not even recall my own dream… until a certain trigger came up?

Well… Today was as usual a rather dizzy day. Just as I was working like a crazy mechanical robot on some digital data on my computer, the song “Copenhagen” by Trentemøller, TomBoy, Jørgensen, Barnes and Fisker came up – causing some sparks of memory to fly off the hidden corners of my head, as my body felt the cool funky electronic beat. Is that not the very song used in the very first part of Mads Nørgaard’s fantastic Fashion Film Trilogy The Copenhagen Experience featuring i.t. Danish models – Prada man Eddie Klint and the über-cool Freja Beha Erichsen, who not only is in the limelight of Mr. Nørgaard’s video, but also by the sounds of it, wasn’t she also the guest of honour in my dream, too?

The first scene of my dream occurred at a hostel somewhere in a historical city close by the beautiful Baltic Sea. It was extremely late at night when we arrived there after a long long journey from afar. Like most people, the incidental star-struck moment caught us off guard. It occurred when my friend Rusya and I had retired to our dormitory and just as we were fixing the annoying bed linen and duvet cover with much anger and beastliness. The door sprang open and along came two people in with the hostel owner to inspect the dimly lit room. Since we were both so tired, we really were not concerned about our surroundings. However, during the 30 seconds long inspection time, in which the mysterious couple quickly arrived at the final conclusion that the room is not suitable for their stay; I caught a mesmerising sight of the pair as I was waving the duvet with much vigorous force in order to smooth things out. Oh my… It was Freja with a boy! Gone with the wind! * faint and black out *

Next scene occurred somewhere that appears like Sea World, where my friends Olga, Rusya and I were at the front row watching the dolphins jump hoops. Since I am not really too much of a fan of animals doing tricks, I often liked to turn my back to watch the audience’s reaction and see who made the loudest “uuh…” and “aaah…”. When my head turned to the 90º mark, I immediately caught sight of someone familiar… the superfine face of Freja! Meeting someone this stellar once is chance, but the second time, it must have been fate! I couldn’t control myself and I yelled out “OMG! It’s Freja!” But then, somehow, Freja didn’t react to my outburst, even though it was clear that her boyfriend male companion heard every word I shouted out crisp and clear.

Then, I woke up.

I have heard from numerous sources, i.e. TREVOFASHIONISTO, that Freja is the nicest model ever to grace the earth. So I must have thought too much, but well having dreamt of Freja is always nicer than not having dreamt of anything!

Dries van Noten Mens Spring/Summer Ready-to-wear 2010 Paris

Adrian Bosch, Nikola Jovanovic and Matvey Lykov in Dries Van Noten Spring Summer 2010 Collection

Adrian Bosch, Nikola Jovanovic and Matvey Lykov in Dries Van Noten Spring Summer 2010 Collection

Is Dries Van Noten men and Dries Van Noten women one of the most matching couples in fashion history ever? Just like the Belgian designer’s womens collection, which we have just seen yesterday, South East Asia is the source of inspiration for menswear as well – creating an easy and non-chalant collection that is smart yet casual and refined yet never over the top.

Spring/Summer 2010 Runway’s Fantastic Five

Well… After four fantastic fashion weeks in New York, London, Milan and Paris, it’s time to round everything up. One of the things to work on is, of course, to make a list of favorite models, especially the ones who made our heart pulse faster and faster as they walked on the runway. For me, there were five girls, who I just can’t seem to get enough of this spring/summer 2010. Here they are in alphabetical order.

Scandinavian sells: Freja Beha Erichsen and Frida Gustavsson

Scandinavian sells: Freja Beha Erichsen and Frida Gustavsson

The first two girls from the list both hail from Scandinavia and their names both start with a fantastic letter: Freja Beha Erichsen from Denmark and Frida Gustavsson from Sweden. I just love Freja’s versatility and her unique personality. She can wear any masculine or feminine outfits and she will look striking in both! I also love the fact that she doesn’t just wear the clothes. She works the clothes in her own style, when she wears it. It is no wonder that she scored 43 shows this spring/summer. Freja’s highlight this season must be at the Chanel show when she kissed with Dutch model Lara Stone in the hay. Cheeky!

Save me, Mathias!

Save a life. Save my life, Mathias!

Save a life. Save my life, Mathias!

Dear Mathias,

Ohhh… Mathias! Save me, please! Save me from ‘my’ home, please! Is home not supposed to be home sweet home – a place where one feels comfortable and is free of danger? Well… Why is mine not?

Last night, in times of desperation, I visited the bathroom. Since I knew precisely about the existence of those hideous rascals in the bathroom from a previous encounter, I took extreme caution of any funny little moving objects prior to entering this no man’s land; but then, I guess I did not give it enough time to observation, as the ill-being living being needed time to adjust to the heavenly illuminance from above, too.

As a result, amidst the stillness of the night, only when I was unrolling the toilet paper did he shoot out of some shady corner.

This super surprising coincidence had a beyond explosive effect on both of us – both screaming around in circles with arms waving frantically in the air in the tiny bathroom space. As I looked at the fat mouse with horror and disgust, I realised the little ‘brainiac’ was trying to get out of this dangerous grounds, but could not find an exit, hence, the circles he was drawing with his dirty little feet. Carefully and swiftly, I opened the door and instantaneously, he sprung out rapidly and without grace nor a goodbye.

As I stood in the bathroom, trying to recover from the shock encounter, I felt stained and tainted just by sharing the same space and air as ‘him’. Although there was no actual bodily contact, I just felt like we had rubbed skin. I guess it was because when it was running around in circles panicking for the love of his life, some of his fur fell off, like when chicken run, they lose their fur and fill up the farm houses with a whole floor of their fur.

Although I have sprayed mortein and laid rat poison in what we think is their favorite places, it still seems like the mighty powerful will never die and that Pinkie and the brain would really overtake the world with my home as the first place on their agenda. So, Mathias, please save this poor girl from the wild wild wretchedness! Bring me to your home! Bring me home before it’s too late!

Yours most desperately,
-Yulya X-

Browsing for a Blouse

Blouses from Danish label Bruuns Bazaar

Blouses from Danish label Bruuns Bazaar

People around me know very well that I do prance around acting like a 13 16 year old school girl abusing my T-Shirts and fighting for love from Mathias amongst a sea of real 16 year old girls (and possibly boys). Well… Although nobody on earth could change the latter of the two fore-mentioned special qualities of mine, I do feel that the best way to stand out from the crowd of insanity is to dress like a sane person. It is perhaps finally time to wave goodbye to those easy peasy T-Shirts, a stable garment amongst youth of today; and say hello to beautiful blouses from Danish fashion label Bruuns Bazaar.

Hidden amongst this charming fall/winter 2009/10 collection by designer Bjørn Bruun are two blouses, which I think are simply outstanding.

The first one (€139.00 EUR) is a clean white blouse with crisp lines down the front. It is simple, yet elegant and classy; something that will definitely make me exude a distinctive aura amongst those dirty naughty rascals.

The second blouse (€169.00 EUR), I like is, has a pretty print that exudes the poetic beauty of the woodlands through the use of abstract drawing techniques and the comely choice of colours – a mixture of rich velvet purple, royal blue, ochre and white. I especially like the ruched sleeve design, which gives the entire look something extra – making it exceptionally artistic and exquisitely stylish.

Bruuns Bazaar’s clothing collection can be purchased online here.

Hey, hay, hej, Mathias!

Hey, hay, hej, Mathias!

Hey, hay, hej, Mathias!

Oh… I wish I am kidding about this ugly situation, but I am so not! My house is infested with mice – not Mickey Mouse, the cute little stuffed toy from Disney; but dirty little filthy things with rounded bellies and hideous grey fur. It all started some time ago when some cheapo started bulk buying huge and cheap bucket loads of bread crust for man’s dearest best friends – my adorable doggies. Naturally this not only attracted mice, but also made them fat and ugly. Now, I’m lying awake in the middle of the night, freaked out by the squeaky noises I hear coming from some shady corner every now and then during this silent night. Well… If only I have a little kitty cat… Mathias, oh, Mathias, will you, please? Handsome, please?

Endnote: I, hereby, issue a sincere apology from the bottom of my heart to people who find this post in any way offensive or inappropriate. Namely, Mathias makes me madly insane and insanely mad.

Oh, Diorling!

Danish model Adrian Bosch in Dior Homme Spring Summer 2007 Ad Campaign

About two years ago, on one breezy evening, when my friend Rusya and I were bored to hell, we decided to do one thing that would spice up our poor little lives in dull ol’ heaven-like suburbia: grocery shopping at Woolies! Little did we know that we would soon discover something beyond mega stellar hidden amongst racks and racks of popular consumer products.

Rock me. I’m a Danish!

Would Mathias wear these?

Rock me, Mathias! You are Danish!

I don’t know about you, but each time, I go to any Gucci store, I just feel so self-conscious, not only because of the cougar-like stares from the super-cunning sales staff; but also, every time I catch a glimpse of Mathias walking the runway oh-so-seductively on their in-store TV screens, I just get all childish and cannot help but giggle ever so silly – creating an embarrassing series of mysterious-yet-hilarious stories for the sales staff to share over smoke breaks.

David & Goliath’s “Rock me. I’m a Danish” T-Shirt is one such fun Tee that arrouses such a silly smile on my face. Yes, Mathias looks nothing like the round donut – who apparently is the Awesome German Composer Mr. Mozart dressed like a Danish playing the electric keyboard oh-so-rock ‘n’ roll. However, you know what? Like a yummy Danish, Mathias just rocks and knocks me out each time he walks, he talks… Mmm…

Well… If I have to choose a Tee to reply his sweet loving gaze upon me, then, David & Goliath has this super adorable ”I’m so fawn of you” Tee.

Can’t believe Tees can actually say it all! Wow! The 21st Century!
