Collection Cage Dorée de Chanel Christmas 2009

Brazilian Model Isabeli Fontana for Collection Cage Dorée de Chanel Christmas 2009

Brazilian Model Isabeli Fontana for Collection Cage Dorée de Chanel Christmas 2009

Chanel’s Christmas Collection is in stores now and I just love it! The collection entitled “Cage Dorée de Chanel” is inspired by a Golden Cage, which is found amongst Mademoiselle Coco Chanel’s personal treasuries in her apartment in Rue Cambon. Created by the brilliant Belgian make-up artist Peter Philips, this exquisite miniature set – made with rich turquoise and emerald stones – is absolutely bewitching! The exotic colours, in particular, are simply divine! Brazilian beauty Isabeli Fontana perfectly exudes the utterly magnetic power of this sophisticated and seductive collection. Enjoy Christmas in style – with Chanel’s fresh and ingenious Christmas creation!

Get Sexy in Sonia Rykiel!

Sonia Rykiel pour H&M Christmas 2009

Sonia Rykiel pour H&M Christmas 2009

Mark the Date! Sonia Rykiel for H&M’s lingerie collection is coming to stores worldwide on 5th December 2009. Ready or not, you know, it’s going to strike in style! So far from the pictures released, the collection seems to be playful and chic in the French label’s notorious ways! Although to me the girls in the campaign – Lara Stone, Anne Vyalitsyna and Caroline Trentini – looked out of place and not in sync with each other, I just love the way each girl looks so comfortable and at ease in it. That’s the way underwear should be, no? Body conscious, smart and sexy; Sonia Rykiel has it!

Proenza Schouler Spring/Summer Ready-to-wear 2010

Rianne Ten Haken, Ginta Lapina and Hanne Gaby Odiele in Proenza Schouler

Rianne Ten Haken, Ginta Lapina and Hanne Gaby Odiele in Proenza Schouler

Spring/Summer 2010 is here and you can certainly see it and sense it here at Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough’s show for Proenza Schouler. This season, the collection took its cue from the designer duo’s last cruise collection presented just two months ago. The same youthful surf culture runs manifestly and intricately through. What has evolved from that refined collection of eccentric waves and zigzags is a fierce unstoppable rock n’ roll edge that shows off each of the girl’s unique personalityand brings us an unforeseen explosive surprise.

Alexis Mabille Fall/Winter Haute Couture 2009/10 Paris

Alexis Mobille Fall Winter Haute Couture 2009 Paris

Alexis Mabille Fall Winter Haute Couture 2009 Paris

I wanted it to look loose and casual-fitting, so she can wear things with the attitude of pulling on a T-shirt” was the justification of Alexis Mabille’s show directly from the lips of the designer himself. With such a strong statement, it is no doubt that the fantastic fall collection by the ingenious young couturier is to die for beyond anyone’s imagination.

Viva la Brasilia!

Raquel Zimmermann in Elle Brazil April 2009 "Sexy & Wild".

Raquel Zimmermann in Elle Brazil April 2009 "Sexy & Wild".

Frankly speaking, when one thinks of Brazil, the eponymous waxing style would be the first thing to come in mind followed by exotic beauties, football fever, sunny beaches, the festive carneval and last but not least, the billion-dollar corn and bioethanol production industry. Innovation and excellency in artistic direction would be one aspect from the vast country of Brazil that is long neglected in the mindmap of associations.

Elle Brazil, the magazine that focuses on women’s fashion, beauty, health, and entertainment, is in my opinion presenting itself as one of the best in the industry with up-to-date and most of all, creative content of its own. In the March 2009 issue, there were two editorials featuring Caroline Trentini, which show two different style of this season’s best; and for April 2009, it strikes again with the same characteristic magnificence. This time, it features Raquel Zimmermann, the Brazilian model who is currently ranked number 1 on models.com [1], on its cover as well as in an editorial inside called “Sexy & Wild”.

The editorial, styled by Luís Fiod and photographed by Henrique Gendre, is shot on a farm with Raquel wearing this season’s western influenced style clothes. Watch out for inimitable ponchos, tough leather leggings and sexy over-the-knee boots.

Ultimately, the setting of the farm is just perfect for this editorial, as it brings out a rural touch that is completely different from the glamorous life encirculating everything fashion, but there is also a sense of liberty and freedom that dares to be uniquely one of a kind and this attitude makes it fashionable.

The best aspect of this editorial, I believe, is the incorporation of lesser-known labels and some of which from Brazil, too, such as Animale from St. Tropez; Carmim, Forum Tufi Duek and Dzarm from Brazil. I find what happens with a lot of international editions of certain big name fashion magazines is that they do not put enough focus to promote their local labels and that is definitely a major pitfall in the long run, because it is extremely hard to shoot, let’s say something from a major fashion label, creatively when it has already been shot fifty times or so. Let’s face it, one outfit cannot create fifty unique looks with fifty unique vibes in fifty different photoshoots by different photographers. It becomes dull the third time you see it. So it is just really nice to see something so original from Elle Brazil.

On the other hand, of course, you also cannot neglect big-name designers, because they are such a centripetal force in the market. So in the end, it really comes down to a good balance and I believe Elle Brazil is doing pretty well in it.

Caroline Trentini: Born in Brazil, Red Russian by nature.

Did anyone say Brazilians can only do swimwear?

Wrong! Wrong! Wrong!

In the March issue of Elle Brazil, Caroline Trentini, the red hot Brazilian model from Panambi, is dressed in Spring/Summer 2009’s hottest Tsarist-influenced clothes in the editorial “Red Russian” (Photographer: Gui Paganini. Editor: Susana Barbosa.). In it, Ms. Trentini shines naturally like a Grand Duchess and gives off that aura of imperial regality like no other. I have always known that Carol is not just your average Brazilian girl and most of all, not just your average fashion model. She is incredible and this editorial simply shouts that out to the world!

Narciso Rodriguez Fall/Winter Ready-to-wear 2009/10 New York

I usually like Narciso Rodriguez’s vision, but this season, perhaps not so much.

Neon and sparkly seem to be the key trend for F/W 2009/10. I am fine with the sparkles, because I do believe it could look great if executed correctly. What I am not so sure of is whether these eye-popping candy-like colours go so hand in hand with Mr. Rodriguez’s own aesthetics. Despite all efforts, all I see in my eyes is plumpness on the runway.

What I like are the tailored trousers, the camouflage pattern and the shining metallic chest-plate infused into Mr. Rodriguez’s signature look. It is a tough look perfect for tough times.

Overall, I feel that Mr. Rodriguez is back onto the fashion radar once again with high profile clients’ support, especially that of Mrs. Obama. So no matter what I say, I think his collection this season would do ok and oh… did you see those hats pulled over the eyes with holes to see through it? It is a rather odd and almost-alien-like look, but seriously, I am sure they would soon be embraced by Hollywood stars, who yearn to be suddenly anonymous for 5 minutes or so.

Isabel Marant Fall/Winter ready-to-wear 2009/10 Paris

Erin Wasson, Raquel Zimmermann and Anna Selezneva in Isabel Marant

Erin Wasson, Raquel Zimmermann and Anna Selezneva in Isabel Marant

When I first heard of the label “Isabel Marant”, it was out of delight from a Slovenien friend, who has just purchased an exquisite skirt at an enchanting discounted price online. While I was thinking on the lines of “WTF is this?”, I hid my primitive and obnoxious doubts next to the bread crumbs and dirt on the keyboard and replied in the tones of absolute jealousy. It worked. Really!
