Tip of the Day
Question:
Solid core door, interior, not latching. Door seems to have shifted. How do you adjust effectively?
Answer:
First close the door eye the gap between the door and the door frame and see if the gap is consistent. If the gap is tighter in two places or the door is out of square you may need to remove the screw holding the hinge and replace it with a longer screw to put the door back square. If the door seems thicker like it has swollen due to moisture or humidity you may need to adjust the hole the door latches into. This is tough because you only need to adjust a 1/8 to a 1/4 inch and the original holes tend to get in your way before you screw the plate back on fill the original holes with some wood. Back in the day we use to use match sticks this will help when you reattach the plate.
