  • This is NOT Burlesque

    [Highly rated reviewer]

If you are a genuine Burlesque fan, and understand the culture and the history behind it, then this movie isn't for you. If you're a fan of Aguilera's, or if you want to just unhook your brain and stare at women in skimpy costumes, then this movie *IS* for you.

The dancing is NOT true Burlesque, it's modern-day hip thrusting aggressive sexual MTV jiggling. Aguilera indeed does have a stunning voice, but this just turned into one long music video to showcase it, puncutated with a paper-thin plot and 5 minutes of dialogue here and there in between songs. The plot line is ridiculously predictable, the beefcake love interest suitably beefy. Cher's uber-stiff botoxed stretched face is morbidly fascinating, and her top lip barely moves as she talks. Her one angst-ridden solo number was rather painful, but her chemistry with her gay business partner Stanley Tucci is very good. Tucci was a Godsend and the only remotely interesting character in the movie, however he seems to have carried right on from the character he played in The Devil Wears Prada - I was half expecting Miranda Priestly to waltz into the club and call for 'Ahndre-ah' to fetch her a drink. Someone please give Tucci the leading role he deserves, I'm sick of seeing him playing wing-men to domineering women or idiot men.

Save it for DVD ladies, and if you're a Burlesque purist then don't touch it, you'll be throwing things at the TV!

An okay film. Best suited to being renamed The Christina Aguilera Show. Lots of good dance routines and nice costumes but a very predictable storyline. Wasn't helped at the end when the film cut off about 10 mins from the end!

Storyline too predictable and practically non existent. Lots of great singing and dancing, so entertaining. A great film for when you simply want to watch without being mentally taxed.
