A lovely and clever film that kept me gripped to the screen. Sad and yet happy. Almost made me cry.

Really enjoyed this film, acting was supurb and the story quite original and highlights the horrors of modern warfare in contrast with WW2. Its not an action film far from it but probably best described as a coming of age type film. Would recommend even for family viewing no swearing, drugs refrences and only some scenes re the horry of war. You won't be dissapointed!

It is US propaganda. Get over it! It's also a very good film. Once you're over the propaganda aspects. The performances by Cromwell (both father and son) and the supporting cast are excellent. Well plotted. I would say this is a good film - if you can keep your dinner down when it gets too cloying.

great film superbly acted, very sensitively portrayed. action scenes done very well, without the usual Hollywood way of over dramatizing .

This film isn't just about action during wartime, it's about the effects on human life. It doesn't blow the Yank trumpet and gives a detailed account of memories of a platoon leader in WW2 and also that of his grandson, during modern warfare. It's a story that includes some action, not an action flick. The acting is first rate and James Cromwell is great as ever. It's even more poignant that his own son portrayed him as a younger man. well worth a watch

Simple set-up. American smulsch. Since G W Bush the yanks have been very keen to attach Iraq and Afghanistan to WWII in order to justify invading the middle-east. As pointed out during D-Day remembrance by veterans - not comparable to Nazi Germany and an insult.
