It’s so easy to operate, not only does it tell you where to turn but it responds to your spoken menu or navigation commands. With innovative speech recognition, you can control this nüvi with your voice while keeping both hands on the wheel. Simply wake up the sat nav with your customisable voice command, then speak the menu option you require from the options clearly displayed on the screen. Tell nüvi "Find Address" and say where you're going to start navigating.
Premium lifetime traffic avoidance alerts you to traffic delays and roadworks on your planned journey and finds a route around. nüvi’s multi-point route planner automatically sorts multiple destinations into the most efficient route. Text-to-speech speaks upcoming street names on your journey for extra route awareness, letting you keep your eyes on the road, not on the sat nav.
Lane Assist shows the correct lane choice for upcoming junctions and motorway exits – so there’s no need to panic, hesitate or make last-minute lane changes, even on unfamiliar routes. PhotoReal™ junction view adds accurate landscape detail and road signs for upcoming exits and junctions for exceptional clarity of detail down to the exact trees and pylons!
nüRoute myTrends learns your driving habits and recognises your favourite destinations to predict where you're going - saving time otherwise spent activating your route. With trafficTrends, nüvi 2460LT automatically learns traffic flow trends reported by other drivers to improve your routes and better estimate your time of arrival based on time of day and day of week. So whether you’re driving to and from work or a regular weekly event, nüvi 2460LT will help you get there on time.
With built-in Bluetooth wireless technology, microphone and speaker, nüvi 2460LT can sync with your mobile phone for safer hands-free calling. Access your call log and phone directory via the sat nav screen and answer incoming calls with a tap of your finger. The integrated unique Cyclops™ safety camera warning system gives real-time, direction-relevant and accurate alerts with overspeed warning as you approach one of hundreds of fixed, mobile, variable limit and temporary safety cameras. nüvi 2460LT also contains speed limits for all major routes and you can manually correct and update road speeds and share any changes with other users via USB.
Multi-route preview shows available routes on the map for visual comparison before selecting your preferred journey and the ecoRoute™ fuel-saver feature helps you save money and fuel and reduce your carbon footprint with the option to follow the ‘less fuel’ route to your destination. ecoRoute also helps you to develop more efficient driving habits, calculates trip cost and enables accurate expense reporting.
Experience complete door-to-door navigation with nüvi 2460LT’s pedestrian navigation. Purchase optional cityXplorer mapping to include directions for places you wouldn't be accessing while in your car, including footpaths and shortcuts through parks. It also tells you where to catch trains, buses and tubes (dependent on the city) and how long it will take you to reach your destination. cityXplorer even contains public transport timetables so ensure you arrive at the station on time and avoid long waits and delays (dependent on the city). When continuing the journey on foot, nüvi 2460LT uses Park Position Recall to automatically mark and help you navigate back to the place you park – ideal when leaving your vehicle on an unfamiliar road or busy retail complex.
The Where am I? emergency locator is a helpful safety feature if you break down or need a local service urgently. Simply tap the car icon on the map screen to view your exact coordinates, nearest address and junction and get contact details for vehicle recovery services and directions to hospitals, police and petrol stations nearby.
Please note: The In car charging cable fits into the active car mount, not the GPS unit.

Garmin Nuvi 2460LT Sat Nav,

I deliberated a long time as to which Sat Nav to purchase. This one ticks all the boxes and I have been really pleased with it.
I particularly like the voice activation, but all the other features are great too. I downloaded the upgraded map with no problem, but it did take about an hour, so requires a little patience. I would certainly recommend this product.

Very impressive (from a former TomTom devotee!),

We have had 4 TomToms over the years and, to be honest, found the units excellent but the customer service terrible when problems arose.
Our 920 was needing new maps but, tired of battles with TomTom customer service, we took a deep breath and decided, after a lot of research, to change to a Garmin 2460.It had a combination of good reviews and the features that we needed. A bonus was the free lifetime traffic support. The unit itself is light and although having a 5 inch screen is still small enough to slip in a bag or large pocket. We bought the Garmin 5 inch travel kit Garmin Travel Accessory Pack including Carry Case, AC Adapter and USB cable - 5 inchwhich includes a good quality padded case, a good idea if you carry your large screen unit about a lot. The travel kit also has a very useful mains adaptor. The imagery and interface is different to what we were used to with TomTom but equally intuitive.Quite a good thing really as the 'Quick Start' guide is only a few pages long covering the basics on charging and how to register online via the 'My Dashboard' webpage that also allows access to software updates, a free map update, pdf manuals etc. The online registration caused the one issue to date. With Windows 7, you need to follow the online instructions and may, like we had to, download the latest USB drivers. We followed the instructions to the letter but couldn't get the PC to recognize the Nuvi. A quick call to the UK call centre for Garmin and the problem was solved...you have to connect the relevant USB cable direct to the Nuvi, not connect via the mounting plate. As soon as that was explained, all went smoothly and the updates started. Be warned, it can take a couple of hours.Download manager is a little alarming at first talking about 1205 hours to download but it quickly drops. Full marks to Garmin however for excellent telephone customer service. That alone justified our decision to swap.Would be good however if Garmin made the instructions just a little more explicit re the correct means of connecting the unit to a PC. Recalculation of routes seems very fast and the voice activation is a revelation compared to what we were used to. POIs are as good as we had with our TomTom and the female voice (English accent) we selected is understandable, even if the pronunciation is a little more robotic than a TomTom.We have not yet explored the optional add-ons available via 'My Dashboard' but it looks like a reasonable degree of personalisation is possible. Out of interest, we ran this alongside our old TomTom 920 in the car and it was faster to react but with near identical routings/durations. One point to note, a traffic cameras subscription is extra. Would not hesitate to recommend this with a huge thumbs up for the customer service. TomTom, take note!

Does the job,

I replaced a 3 year old TomTom One with this Garmin 2460LT. The TomTom was okay for a basic satnav, but the maps were getting old and TomTom wanted the cost of a new device to upgrade them.
The Garmin 2460 locks onto satellites fast and maintains a strong signal. The 5" screen makes it easy to see and the onscreen maps are very responsive. With the TomTom it took an age to lock on to satellites and maps took too long to update, casing the odd wrong turn whilst navigating in built up areas. Hands-free calling works well with iPhones, but I found the voice instantiated navigation to be very hit and miss. The cradle is really well designed, making it easy to just insert the device and go. As a tip for those who want lifetime map updates it is cheaper to buy the 2460LT + seperate lifetime maps than it is to buy the 2460LMT with the maps included. Just search Amazon for "lifetime maps".
