    I’m going to talk about death. My mom is dying. Probably tonight. It is awful to see,to know she doesn’t want to die and hasn’t really accepted it-hanging on to small things, like wanting a TV to watch NY Eve celebrations. (cont)

    Upping tension on Baldur’s Gate by mandating semi-iron man;no reloads unless main character dies.Companion deaths are permanent, forcing more varied party composition. Also playing a cunning, deceptive, thin-skinned but charismatic CE psychopath, instead of usual Bioware paragon.

    Directed by Val Guest, who also directed Hammer’s first two Quatermass movies and The Abominable Snowmen (which introduced Peter Cushing). Intelligent, adult, sci-fi dramas. The themes in Day the Earth Caught Fire really resonate now.

    Reminder that there are some great classic RPGs and JRPGs available on the iPad now (some also work on iPhone-the JRPGs are probably better suited to phones). The entire Infinity Engine series other than Icewind Dale 2 is available.

    Been playing Baldur’s Gate 1 on a 12.9” 2015 iPad Pro. Beamdog/Overhaul did a great job with its adaptation. Unsure if the more complex battles of BG2 would translate as well, but Icewind Dale and Planescape Torment should also work well. Here’s my NPC that BioWare put into BG1

    My favorite doomsday film is The Day the Earth Caught Fire, which is also one of the better movies on journalism. Memorable characters and incredible atmosphere of building dread.
