Amazon.co.uk Review

Villainy is a way of life, but if a villain doesn't have a hero to battle, can he still expect the same sense of satisfaction from his evil deeds? When Megamind (Will Ferrell) finally defeats his long-time nemesis Metro Man (Brad Pitt), he ecstatically goes about laying ruin to Metro City, reveling in the fact that he can now have anything he wants. Surprisingly, Megamind's glee quickly turns to dissatisfaction as he realizes that the battle was half the fun and everything comes too easy now. Thus begins a plot to turn the nerdy Hal (Jonah Hill) into Tighten, a new hero for Megamind to battle. What Megamind doesn't count on is that Tighten may not turn out to be as good as he's meant to be. Nor does he anticipate falling in love with his old rival's girl Roxanne Ritchi (Tina Fey). In the end, Megamind finds he must rethink his assumptions about good, bad, and what makes him happy. Megamind and Despicable Me are remarkably similar movies: both deal with villains who are unfulfilled by their evil ways and who, despite their despicable natures, have some essential goodness deep down inside. Both villains are presented in highly stylized animation and the 3D effects in each film are skillful and effective without being overdone. Megamind has Minion, who watches over him, while Gru has a whole crew of mindless minions supporting his evil ventures. Finally, both films are solidly entertaining. Because the two films were released within a few months of one another, speculation about who copied who will no doubt run rampant, but the bottom line is that both films are well worth seeing.--Tami Horiuchi

DVD Description

Packed with high-flying action and non-stop laughs, Megamind puts a whole new hilarious twist on the superhero movie. Super villain Megamind’s (Will Ferrell) dreams have come true when he conquers the city’s protector, Metro Man (Brad Pitt), gaining control of Metro City. But when a new villain (Jonah Hill) is created and chaos runs rampant, the world’s biggest “mind” and his comic sidekick Minion (David Cross) might actually save the day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mega Awesome!, 12 Feb 2011
By
This movie is so underated and i admit i didnt bother to go watch it at first after seeing the trailer which made it look like just another forgettable summer kids movie but i couldnt have been more wrong, this movie has a great indepth story that adults as well as kids will enjoy even though i will admit that adults who watch it will probably love it more than their children,i have to say that personally i didnt enjoy the humour in despicable me and even found that film boring at times but im laughing every other minute while watching megamind,im so addicted to this film now that ive been watching it at least once every few days! It gets 5 well earned stars from me.

5.0 out of 5 stars A bad guy turns good..., 20 Nov 2010

This review is from: Megamind [DVD] [2010] (DVD)
The trailers of "Megamind" is like your same old typical Dreamworks Animated Movie. Slapstick comedy, simple story, less heart. But the movie turns out to be good. It's a solid entertainment, a lot of action and laughs. The best thing about this film is the flying sequence. You don't need to watch this in 3D because in 2D cinema you already feel like you are flying. "Megamind" is fun and non-stop entertainment. Like I say, 2010 is the best year for animated movies.

The story is like "What will happen if the villain defeated the hero?". Without the main superhero, the main villain will be a good guy. The story is interesting but it's predictable sometimes. At least the movie is fun. The jokes were funny (duh it's Dreamworks). The entertainment quality is great. I'm not against 3D but you don't need to see this in 3D. It's already exciting and fun in 2D.

It's not like "How to Train Your Dragon" or "Kung Fu Panda" that it's very heartwarming. "Megamind" has a heart but not as big as the movies i have mentioned. The filmmaking is decent. Hans Zimmer's music is always great. The action and flying scenes are very exciting. Also the voice acting was pretty good. Will Ferrel's voice reminded me of Rainn Wilson's Gallaxhar on last year's "Monsters Vs. Aliens" and also the appearance of the character. But his voice acting was good though.

Overall the movie is very enjoyable. It could be one of the best animated films of the year. It's not your typical Dreamworks except the trailer. The movie is short but it's undeniably entertaining. It's a movie you can repeat all over again like "HTTYD", "Shrek", and "KFP" but not as heartwarming as those three. It's like "Monsters Vs. Aliens" with heart.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic movie!, 11 Dec 2010
This review is from: Megamind [DVD] [2010] (DVD)
Just saw this today and I'm definitely buying the dvd (or blu-ray) when it comes out! :D
Quite a bit different from the trailers, but in a good way - it was funny, action-packed and somewhat surprisingly had me on the edge of my seat at points. I was expecting it to be more silly than anything but it turned out to have a rather more complex storyline.
Definitely one of the best films this year and on par with Despicable me, if not better.

MEGAMIMD can be funny in places and some scenes are quite breathtaking, but it lacks originality and style and i wasn't too keen on the animation.

I would highly recommend this as a family movie. I took my two daughters (aged 2 and 3!) to see it, they did like it, but i think i enjoyed it even more than they did.
