The Southern Poverty Law Center accepts no government
funds, nor any part of the court judgments won
for its clients. But the cost of operating its
educational and legal programs runs into millions
of dollars each year.
With the generous support of its donors, the
Center is able to:
Create top-quality Teaching
Tolerance education materials, including
an award-winning magazine for teachers, Oscar-nominated
videos, and other tolerance education tools
that are distributed free to classrooms in
every state;
Defend victims of hate group violence in
court at no charge. Center
attorneys have pioneered lawsuits in which
hate groups have been held liable for crimes
committed by their followers;
Reach millions with messages of tolerance
and understanding through Tolerance.org.
This site contains the latest tolerance news,
along with special sections for teens, parents,
and children; and
Track hate groups through the Intelligence
Project and keep law enforcement agencies
and officers informed about their activities
with the Intelligence
Report magazine.

Karon McCann, who passed away last year, was an ardent Center supporter who believed that racism was on the rise in the U.S. — and that teaching our children tolerance could stem the tide of hate.
